Specification of Letters Patent. PatentedFeb. 22, `192:1.
Application led February 11, 1920. Serial No. 357,978. i
7 10 all whom/1f may concern.'
Be it known that I, MARGARET T.V KEARNS, citizen of the United States, residing at Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements vin Glove-Drier Forms, of which the following is a specificavide a novel and improved construction of.V body portion having sockets at its upper edge adapted to receive andrigdly support Shanks fromy coperating digital members and also having sockets at its opposite side edges to similarly support thumb members.
A further object of the invention is `to present a novel construction of digital mem'- ber having a shank adapted to be secured against movement in a kerf formed in a` body portion, said member being providedV with a portion beyond said sha-nk to inclose the upper edge of said kerf.
Other and further objects andV advantages of the invention willbe hereinafter set forth and the novelfeatures thereof defined by the appended claims.
In the drawing- Figure 1 is an elevation of the invention;
Fig. 2 vertical section on line 2-2 of Fig. 1; Y
Fig. 3 is a top plan of the body portion;
Fig. 4 is a side elevation thereof;
Fig. 5 is a detail perspective of one of the digital members, and Fig. 6 is adetail of a. modified form of socket.
Like numerals refer to like parts in the several figures of the drawing. f
The numeral 10 designates the body or palm portion which may be formed of any desired material or configuration', and is herein shown with the wrist or baseportioii 11 substantially oval in cross section while' the upper part 12 thereof isfiattened into an elongated oval, as shownin Fig. 3. This part 12 is formed with a series of transverse kerfs or channels 13 lto form sockets therein adapted to receive the shanks 14 carried by the digital or finger members 15. These sockets are formed with a straight or plane bottom wall 16 which contacts with a similar ward thereon.
wall l7on the shanks 14 and presents lateral movement of the digital members when the parts are secured together. This securing may be effected by any desired means, `for instance a cross pin 18 extendingthrough an aperture 19 longitudinally of the body portion and also through apertures 20 in the digital members. This provides meansvby which the digital members may be interi changeably mounted uponv the body portion,
as by withdrawing the pin they maybe ar ranged for either a right or left hand glove.
The digitalv or finger members 15 are shaped to conform .to the fingers `of-a hand or glove and atv their base 2li are extended beyond the angular shank portion 14 to completely coverthe upper edge of thesocket at the inger'base andprotect the same against moisture, as shown in Fig. 2. The fingerl members are preferably spaced apart soas' to permit access between lthe same for cleaning purposes when the glove is in position thereon. 1 In fitting a glove upon the form, particularly when the glove is wet, it is desirable to remove the lthumb of the form so thaty the glove fingers ma be worked straight downmember 22 is provided with a reduced shank 23, similar to the finger members, which enters a diagonallydisposed socket 24 upon.
a shoulder 27 by which lit is positioned at i the proper angle from the body to be separated therefrom for drying purposes. The sockets 24 are `duplicated at the opposite sides of the form so that the thumb portion may be interchanged for either right or left hand gloves when the finger members are rearranged for that purpose. vThe disposition of thel thumb'member at the side of the body locates the thumb in substantially the *or this purpose the thumb vertical plane of the fingers and thus pre` i sents a flat vfront and back surface for unobstructedcleaning of a glove. While this form may be lconstructedof any desired material it is particularly adapted for production from wood as the sockets may be conveniently formed therein.
The sockets have been described as straight slots but they may be otherwise formed, for instance the body or hand por tion 30 may have formed therein dovetail sockets 31 adapted to receive the finger member 32 having a dovetail shank 33 to fit the socket, as shown by the modified form' of the invention in Fig. 6.
In the use of the form the digital members may be interchangeably arranged for either a right or left hand glove and when in an assembled position are securely held against pin may be removed and the finger members withdrawn from the form with the glove and subsequently removed separately therefrom. In fitting a glove upon the form the thumb member may be omitted until the fingers have been properlyadjusted and then inserted in osition to receive the glove thumb. It will also be seen that the formation of the baseof the digital members protects the shank sockets from moisture due to the presence lof a wet glove upon the form.
The invention presents a simple, efficient and economically manufacturedA glove form adapted to receive and dry the wash gloves in general use, or to support a glove thereon fordry cleaning or other purposes.
rWhat I claim is 1 1. A glove form comprising a body portion having a series of sockets at its upper edge and thumb sockets at its opposite side edges, digital members having shanks to enter said sockets and formed with means at their inner ends to prevent lateral movement therein, and removable means engaging said sockets and members for retaining the same in position;
2. A glove form comprising a body portion havin a series of sockets at its upper edge and t umb sockets at its opposite side edges, digital members having shanks engagin'g at their inner ends against the base of said sockets, and a removable cross pin extendin through said sockets at the upper edge of t e body and the over-lapping portion of said Shanks.
3. A glove form comprising a body por-` tion having a series of sockets at its upper edge, interchangeable digital members-having angular Shanks to seat in contact with the lower portion of said sockets to prevent movement of said digital members, and a A removable securing pin engaging said Shanks edge and thumb sockets at its opposite side,
edges, interchangeable digital members secured against movement 1n said sockets, and
a removable lthumb member adapted to be secured in either thumb socketof the'body portion to lie in the vertical planeof the digital members.
6. A glove form comprising a body portion having a' series of transverse slots at its upper edge and diagonally disposed slots at the opposite sides edges thereof, finger members having shanks provided at theirinner ends with means to prevent pivotal movement therein, a pin extending through said Shanks and slots to retain said members against longitudinal removal therefrom, and a thumb member having a shank removably retained in one of said diagonal slots.
7. A glove form comprising a body poition having a series of transverse slots at its upper edge and diagonally disposed slots at thereof, a pin extending through said shanks v and slots to retain said member against removal therefrom, a thumb member having a shank disposed in one of said diagonalslots, and a removable pin passing through said thumb shank to retain itin position;
8. A glove form comprising a body portionhavin a seriesV of sockets at its upper edge, and igital members having shanks to enter said sockets and formed to Iengage the base thereof to prevent lateral oscillation of said members.'
upper edge with their base at an angle to 9. Afglove form comprising a body portion having a series of transverse slots at .its
the sidewalls thereof, and digital members i having Shanks to enter said slots and vformed with a straight lower face to engage said base.
In testimony whereof I affix m signature.
