TOY.
Specification of Letters Patent. patgnted Feb. 15, 1921.
Application filed May 2e, 1919. Serial No. 299,567.
T all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, Davie Zaman a citizen oi Russia, residing at East range, county oi Essex, and State ot New Jersey, have invented certain new and useiul lmprovements in Toys, of which the following is a. specification.
rliis invention relates to toys and espe cially to figures oit doll babies or animals having limbs adapted to move 'freely and carried by or connected with the armature oi? an electromagnet, the object oi the invention being to energize the magnet and b y an intermittent current to give movement to the limbs to simulate life, as Will be more fully described in the following specification, set forth in the appended claims and t the accompanying drawings, wherein: Y
Figure l is a Jrace view of a. doll with the improvements and the invention applied thereto.
Fig. 2 is vertical sectional view of the doll.
Fig. 3 is a sectional detail of the connections between a pair of limbs.
lVhile the ligure or" a doll is shovrn in the drawings it is evident that other shapes or animals muy be represented in metal9 papier mche or other substances and having limbs adapted to move and be actuated by an electric current.
The doll 5 as illustrated has the arms (3 at each side and they are connected by a spring attached to the hooks 8 on each arm and which tends to draw them together. Tubes 9 surround the spring and ifit ver a central tube 10 through which the spring 'T also passes but which is hung on a rod 1l carried by the armature l2 oi' the electric magnet 18 and When the latter is energized the armature is set in motion, the arms 6 are agitated and the eilect is increased by the resiliency of the spring 7 which allows a i'reedom ot movement to the arms and at the same time permits of their adjustment to any positionivith relation to the body 5.
The tubes play through perforations l/l and an intermittent electric current through the means ot the circuit breaker l5 causes an oscillatingrmovement by the said tubes and a shaking oi the arms and any garment which might be Worn by the ligure. The electric current for the toy may be provided by a battery lo or i'rom any other source ot electric energy and the doll is adapted to be mounted on a mat 17 carrying members 18 of the glove fasteners 19 which When attached to each other complete a. circuit through the batter the Wires 2O and the circuit breaker and the electromagnet 13, energizing the latter and oscillating the tubes 9 and 10 and vibrating the arms 6 to simulate lite like movements of the doll and the latter may be dressed in appropri ate clothing which is agitated by the movement and produces a dancing effect.
rlhe electromagnet is located in the head of the gure 5 Where it may be easily placed and adjusted when required.
t is obvious that other arrangements and modifica-tions may be resorted to Without departing from the essential 'features above described or from the scope or' the appended claims.
What l claim as new is: Y l. ln a toy, the combination of a figure. limbs adapted to move sideivise, suspending means Jfor `the limbs: in the ligure, and an electromagnet and circuit for vibrating the suspending ine-ans to actuate the limbs.
i Q. ln a toy, the combination of a ligure, limbs at the side of the ligure and adapted tio move laterally, an electromagnet inthe ligure, an'electric circuit, and suspending means for the limbs pivoted to the electromagnet and adapted to be vibrated bv it to shift the arms. t
3. ln a toy, the combination or a ligure, limbs adapted to move, telescopic tubes car; rving the limbs and adapted to move longitudinally, a spring connecting the pair of limbs, an electromagnet and electric circuit, and an armature carrying the telescopic tubes. Y
Ll. ln a `toy, vthe combination of a ligure. limbs at the side ot the figure, a coil spring connecting the limbs, tubes inclosing the spring and separating the limbs, a telescopic tube Within the inclosing and separating tubes, an electromagnet, an armature, and rod depending `from the armature and carrying the telescopic tubes.
ln testimony whereof l havey signed my name to this speciiication in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses, this th day of May, 1919.
DAVID ZAIDEN.
Witnesses: Y
