TOY SWING.
APPLICATION menuov. 16, 1911.

" TOY swine.
Application filed November 16, 1917. T Serial No. 202,386,
To all whom it may concern:
iBe it-known that I, CARL ABERNATHY, a citizen of the United States, residing'at 'Atlanta, in the county of Fulton and State of Georgia, have invented new and useful Improvements in Toy Swings, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to toys and it has particular reference to a toy swing in. which a doll may be placed, said swing being mechanically operated'by means of a spring motor. i
A further object of the invention is to produce a simple and improved toy swing which will be mechanically operated and which will not be liable to get out of order. ith these and other ends in view which will readily appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same conthe line 22 in Fig. 1.
' I on the line 83 in Fig. 1.
sists in the improved construction and novel arrangement and combination of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out in the claims. In the accompanying drawing has been illustrated asimple and preferred form of the invention, it being, however, understood that no limitation is necessarily made to the precise structural details therein exhibited, but that changes, alterations and modifica-' tions within the scope of the claims may be resorted to when desired. In the drawing 1 Figure 1 is a front view of a swing constructed in accordance with the invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional View taken on Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view taken Corresponding parts in the several figures are denoted by like characters of reference. A pair of uprights 15 supported on a base 16 are connected together and spaced apart at their upper ends by a cap piece 17 'having eyes 18 connected with the under side thereof. The body S of the swing is swingingly supported from the eyes 18 by -means of yokes 19, said swing body having arm rests 20 and a bottom member 21 through which the limbs of the yokes 19 extend, the lower extremities of the limbs being bent upon or otherwise made fast to the bottom member, it being understood that the said yokes are constructed of mod erately stiff wire, the front and rear limbs sea -alanof Letters Patent "Patenteds paa iois.
22 being preferably made to in a downward'directionn.
,MA motor which may be of any desired type, although a simple spring motor may be preferred, is mounted within a casing M, said motor havlng been shown as lncludmg a winding post 24 and a drlven shaft 25.
-The motor casing is mounted on one of the uprights 15. Fixed on the cap piece 17 are brackets 26 forming bearings for a shaft 27 having cranks 28 that are positioned between the front and rear limbs of the yokes 19. Motion may be transmitted through the driven shaft 25 to the crank shaft 27 in any convenient manner; in the drawing the driven shaft has been shown as carrying a spur wheel 29 meshing with a pinion 30 on the crank shaft. It is obvious that when the latter is rotated the cranks will alternately engage the front and rear limbs of the yokes 19, whereby the swing body is suspended, thereby imparting a vibratory movement to the swing. fPivoted on the frontliinb of one of the yokes 19 is an arm 31 having a resilient catch 32 adapted to I A V engage the front'limb of the other yoke,
readily understood that when the cranks beg come disengaged from contact with the limbs at one side of the yokes the crank shaft will be temporarily speeded until the opposite limbs are encountered when the speed will be retarded, thereby checking the speed of the motor. I
What is claimed is P- 1. A supporting frame, a swing body,
yokes whereby the body is swingingly sup-v ported, said yokes having front and'rear limbs, a shaft extending between the front and rear limbs, cranks on the. shaft alternately engagingthe front and rear limbs, and means for driving the shaft. V
2. In a toy of the class described, a pair of uprights and. a cap piece connecting the same, eyes extending downwardly from the cap piece, yokes engaging the eyes, said yokes having front and rear limbs, a swing body supported by the yokes, bearings extendingdownwardly fromthe cap piece,a
shaft supported in said bearings and extending between the front and rear limbs of the yokes, said shaft having cranks alternately engaging said front and rear yokes, and means for driving the crankshaft, including a motor supported on one of the uprights.
- 3. In a toy of the class described, a supported frame, including a cap piece, a swing body having arm -rests and a bottom 7 member, yokes swingingly supported by the nected on" the front limb of one yoke and having a resilient catch for engagement with the front limb of the other yoke, and means for imparting swinging motion to the yokes. In testimony whereof I my signa- CARL nnnnnrnr.
