FIG. 3,
INVENTOR WITNE SSEB AM. PI-IOTO-ZHHDGIIAPHICCO.MY(0$BORNEPROCESS) UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ELIAS B. HUNGERFORD OF GORNING, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN MOLDS FOR MAKING GLASS BLlND-SLATS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 136,835, dated March 18, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELIAS B. HUNGERFORD, of Corning, inthe county of Steuben and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Molds Setting and the Application of Wire Staples in Glass Slats for Blinds and Shutters; and the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference beinghad to the accompanying drawing making a part of this specification, in which' v v Figure 1 representsa top view of a mold, in which glass blind-slats are formed by pressing the glass into them, closed. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the mold open showing the wire staple as set in the base to be secured to the slat; also the plunger to compress the glass slat'firmly around it. Fig. 3 shows a cross-section of the mold and base with an edge view of the staple set in it. p
The obj ect and nature of my invention are an improvement on the glass blind-slats, for which Letters Patent were granted to me February 27, 1866; and it consists in the attaching wire staples firmly to the slat made of glass, and the arrangement of the mold to set and hold the staple in a firm position so that the glass will be pressed around it, andwhen removed from the mold is secured in the edge.
The mold A A is made of metal, and hinged to open in the usual manner, having in each half the impress of the form of the slat a a, the same being provided with a recess, 1) b,
above, in which is fitted a plunger, B, to force the plastic glass into the form a a, and corn press it firmly around the wire staple c, which is set in a recess, 6, made in the base-block D for the purpose, and held firmly in a vertical position by closing the two sides of the mold A A onto it. When the slat is removed from themold, the staple is firmly set in each glass blind-slat, so that a series of them are connected by a rod, to operate the same as movmy name. E. B. HUNGERFORD.
