IMVEI'UE: 11 23 f ATIDHNEY:
UNITED. STATES DANIEL WILLIAM MACMILLAN, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
SOFT-COLLAR FASTENER.
Application filed December 6, 1920.
To all 'LU/0m 'it may concern Be it known that I, DANIEL VILLIAM MACMILMN, a citizen Vof the United States, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Soft-Collar Fasteners, ofwhieh the following is a. specification.
iy invention has reference to an improvement in soft collar fasteners and more particularly to an improvement in my soft collar fastener shown in my United States Patent No. 1,359,612, issued to me Novem ber 23, 1920. Y.
The object of my invention is to improve the construction of such a soft collar fastener or holder, whereby the holding power of the fastener on the collar is increased without injury to the collar, the construction simplified and the cost'of construction materially reduced.
My invention consists in the peculiar and novel construction of a soft collar fastener having details of construction, as will be more fully set forth hereinafter and claimed. p
Figure 1 is an edge view of my improved soft collar fastener in the normally closed position.
Fig. 2 is a back View of the fastener with one end of the spring back bar broken away.
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional View taken on line 3, 3 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional vienT taken on line 4, 4 of Fig. 1.
Fig.` 5 is a detail longitudinal sectional view taken on line 5, 5 of Fig. 2, and
Fig. 6 is a plan view of the blank from which the rigid front bar is formed.
Figs. 1, 2, 3 and 6 are enlarged and Figs. 4 and 5 are still further enlarged.
In the drawing indicates a rigid curved front bar, and 8 a spring back bar. The rigid front bar 7 is formed from a blank as shown in Fig. 6, to have a curved front 9, longitudinal edge ribs 10, 10 on the back, folded over side flaps 11, 11, on the back at each end, semi-circular ends 12, 12 and central spring back bar holding members 123, 13 vat each side and which are forced over from each side and down onto the back bar, to hold the back bar in place. Each side flap 11, has a slight-ly concaved under portion 14 and rounded inner and outer edges 15, 15, and each of the semicireular Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 15, r19211.
Serial No. 428,738.
By this construction the heretofore operations of bending over the ends of the front bar, to form the ends of the pockets 17, 17 are eliminated, thereby reducing the cost of construction, the inner rounded edges 15, 15 on the flaps 11, 11 prevents injury to the collar and the shape of the spring back bar gives more room for the endsy of the collar, thereby allowing for different shapes and sizes of collars.
Having thus described my invention I claim as new:u
1. A soft collar fastener comprising a rigid front bar having longitudinal edge ribs on the back and bent over side flaps forming end pockets in the back of the front bar, a spring back bar having pore tions parallel with the front bar and-round` ed ends which normally enter the pockets in the front bar, for the purpose as described, and means for securing the spring back bar to the front bar.
2. A soft collar fastenerV comprising a rigid front har having semi-circular ends, longitudinal edge ribs on the back, bent over side flaps on the edge ribs and forming end pockets in the back of the front bar., a spring back bar having spring portions parallel Withthe front bar and bent back angular spring portions having round-ed ends which normally enter .the pockets in the front bar, for the purpose as described7 and means for securing the spring back bar to the front bar.
3. A soft collar fastener comprising a curved rigid front bar having semi-Circular Y ends vvi-tli rounded edges, longitudinal edge ribs en the back bent over side laps forming end pockets 1n the back of the front bar, said side flaps having slightly eoncaved under-sidesand rounded edges, a spring back bar having a flat central portion and at each side of the central portion an outwardly curved portion merging'into a Curved portion parallel with `the front bar, said curved parallel portion merging into Va rounded end which merges into an angular bent back portion that terminates into a rounded end, normally entering the pocket in the back bar7 for the purpose asdeseribed7 and means 'for securing the flat central portion of the spring back bar to the front bar.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
DANIEL WILLIAM MACMILLAN.
