Description
V.. F. HEMMM'I.
KITCHEN SWK APPLlcATIoN mm HEB. I9. 1920.
UNITED STATES VLASTIMIL F. HEGRAT, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
KITCHEN-SINK.
Application led February 19, 1920.
To all wlw/m, t may concern:
Be it known that I, VLAs'riMiL F. HEGRAT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Kitchen-Sinks, of which the following is a full, clear, concise, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.
My invention relates to kitchen sinks and has for its object the provision of a structure of this kind in which instrumentalities are provided to increase their effectiveness.
In the form of my invention herein disclosed I provide a combined structure arranged in such a manner that there is a sink portion next to a shelf or drain portion. The drain portion is so arranged that a shelf is provided which is slidable and which may be drawn outwardly so as to increase the shelf portion or sink structure or it may be slid back into position of non use at which time the supplemental shelf is out of the way.`
Within the drain portion there is also provided a drawer for the accommodation of those necessary kitchen utensils which are used in connection with household operation.
I will describe my invention 'more in detail by referring to the accompanying drawings illustrating the same, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a sink structure embodying my invention; I
Fig. 2 is a sectional view on line 2-2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a sectional view on line 3-3 of Fig. 2; and
Fig. 4 is a front view of a modified form.
Referring more particularly to Fig. 1 the sink structure there shown comprises a back portion 10 together with a forwardly pro- )ecting sink portion 11, a drain or shelf seetion 1() also projecting forwardly kof the back section 10. Suitable faucets 13 and 14 may project through the back portion but these form no part of the structure of my invention.y Within the shelf portion of the device there is mounted a supplemental slide shelf 15 having a suitable hand hold 16 so that it may be withdrawn or pushed back into place as the case requires. The shelf portion 12 has suitable ways or guides 17 on top of which the supplemental shelf 15 may slide. This supplemental shelf is made of metal having the top plate 18 and the Specification of Letters Patent.

downwardly projecting sides 19. The side portions 19 of the supplemental shelf 15 are grooved so as to form the grooves 20. Near the groove 20 is deep enough so that these stops 22 may be` inserted in place when the shelf is in position and cemented in the holes provided for their reception. The shelf portion'12 is also provided with a further opening at the bottom of which there are ways or guides 23 and these support a metal drawer 24, this metal drawer having the suitable hand hold 25 preferably shaped in the form of a socket as more clearly apparent from an inspection of Fig. 2.
In Fig. 4 I show a modified form of the device having the back plate 10a and having two sliding shelves 15 and two drawers 24. In other respects the structure of Fig. 4 is similar to that shown in Fig. 1.
It will thus be seen that a self-contained sink structure is provided carrying the necessary instrumentalities for efficient use.
Having thus described one form of my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure byLetters Patent is.
1. A sink structure of the character described having a back wall, a sinkportion extending forwardly from said back wall, an integral shelf portion immediately next to the sink portion also extending forwardly from said back wall, said shelf portion having an integral depending portion, and a drawer slidably mounted within the depending portion of the aforesaid portion.
2. A sink structure of the character described having a back wall, a sink portion extending forwardly from said back wall, an integral shelf portion immediately next to the sink portion also extending forwardly from said back wall having a depending apron, a drawer slidably mounted within the shelf portion aforesaid, and a shelf having a depending side flangev slidably mounted within said 'shelf portion, said fiange co operating with guide ribs formed on said apron.
3. A sink structure of the character de- 2 rasee io scribed having a back wall. a sink portion extending forwardly from said back wall. an integral shelf portion immediately next to the sink portion also extending forwardly from said back wall, a. dra-wer slidably mounted within the shelf portion aforesaid. a shelf having a depending side flange slidably mounted within said shelf portion, said side flange being provided with an inwardly offset portion forming a groove. and stops to prevent complete withdrawal of said shelf portion extending into said groove.
4. A sink structure of the character described having a back wall. a sink portion extending forwardly from said back wall. a shelf portion immediately next to the sink portion also extending forwardly from said back wall, a drawer slidably mounted within the shelf portion aforesaid. a shelf slidably mounted within said shelf portion. and stops to prevent complete withdrawal of said shelf portion, said shelf-Y portion having grooves into which said stops project.
A sink structure of the character described comprising a sink portion. a fixed shelf portion adjacent said sink portioinsaid sink portion having a depending apron extending below said slielf portion having openings therein to slidably receive a shelf and drawer therein7 and guides formed integral with said apron for said shelf and irawer.
n. In a sink structure, a fixed shelf poi'- tion provided with a depending apron, aii inwardly extending rib cast integral with said apron. a shelf slidable in said sink structure. said shelf having a depending flange at the side thereof. said slidable shelf being guided between the under face of said fixed siielf portion and said rib with the lower edge or' said fiange in engagement with said rib.
ln a sink structure, a iixed shelf portion provided with a depending apron, an invardlv extending rib cast integral with said ipron. a shelf slidable in said sink structure. said shelf having a depending iaiige :it the. side thereof. said slidable shelf heilig guided between the under face of said fixed shelf portion and said rib with the lower edge of said fia-nge iii engagement with said rib. said flange being provided with an invardlv oifset portion forming a groove and cooperating stops on said apron and flange projecting into said groove.
in witness whereof I hereunto subscribe rnv name this 28th day of January7 A. D. .920.
