UNITED STATESJ'PATENT OFFICE.
GUSTAVE J.. KOEE-LER, 0F DAYTON, OHIO.
i PORTABLE SHOWER-BATH EIXTURE.
Beit known that'I, GrUsfrAvE J. Koni-1min,
a citizen oi' the UnitedStates, residing at- Dayton, in the county ot Montgomery and State of Ohio, have invented certain new :ind `useful improvements in y Portable Shower-Bath Fixtures, ot which the following is e speciicetion.
llheprincipnl object of, the invention is to provide a portable shower bath fixture that may be readily attached to abatir tub tor use when desired. The invention contemplates the provision of n perforated outlet head which muy be easily raised or lowered to different heights above the buther, and thereu'tlter turned to any desired angular position in the horizontal plane in which it is positioned.V
Another object of the invention is to provide water-tight connections at ell points where water is ylikely to leal; out, and particularly at the point where the tube carrying the outlet head, enters the vertical supporting tube.
@ther importent und incidental objects will be brought out in the following speeication and particularly set 'forth in the sub- `ioined claims.
The preferred torin ot' embodiment o1l2 my invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, ot which F igure"'1 is a side elevetional view o my improved portable shower bath fixture. And lifig. Q is a vertical sectional VView taken through the seme.
Throughout the specification and drawings, similar reference characters denote corresponding parts.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, the numeral 1 designates a vertical tube'to the bottoni end ot' which is secured e clamp 2. rlhe latter comprises a casting having e vertical tubular portion 3 which receives the lower end oit the tube 1. The clamp casting also has n horizonte. tubular extension 4 adapted to receive one end oit a flexible tubing 5. `Secured in the outer end of the tube 5 is right-eugled connection G which is adopted to be attached, in a water-tight man ner, to a faucet o't the bath tub.
T he clamp casting 2 has a preferably hoolishaped jaw portion 7 whose top inner surface is concave to tit over the curved nuirgi nal rim 8 of the bath tub. The lower end of the jaw portion 7 of the clamp 2 has a tubular threaded enlargement 9 adapted to receive a thumb screw 10 capable ot being Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Jan. 25, 192L Application led October 7, .1919.
Serial No. 329,142.
turned to 'force its upper end into tight engagement with the lower surface of the marginal rim ci the bath tub, Vthereby to hold the shower bath fixture firmly on the latter.
The interior portion of the casting 2 is hollow to permit water to pass from the extension d into a tube 11 that has a telescopic movement in the tube 1. The downward movement of the tube .llfinto the casting 2, is vlimited by a rib 12 that projects into the hollow middle portion 13 of said casting. rihe lower end of the tube 1 permanently rests upon this rib, being maintained thereby a suiiicient distance above the bottom of the hollow portion of the casting to permit water to pass freely through the latter from the horizontal extension 4 into the vertically movable tube 11. Aflixed to the lower end of the letter tube is a brass washer 14 designed to prevent said tube from being pulledL out of the upper end of the tube 1.
Alixed to the upper end of the tube 1 is a collar or sleeve 15 `terminating in a hol low enlarged end that is exteriorly threaded to receive e. jam-nut 16 -through which the tube 11 passes. Surrounding the tube 11 and resting upon the upper circumferential edge of the tube 1, is a rubber or other suitable washer 17 whose outer face engages the inner periphery of the enlarged portion of the collar 16. The top of said washer is adapted to be engaged bythe top of the ja1nnut 16, whereby, when the latter is turned for a downward movement on the collar 15. it willpress the washer tightly against the tube 11 to prevent any leakage of water around it et the point Ywhere it enters the tube l. When it is desired to raise or lower the tube 11 the jam-nut 16 is loosened.
The upper portion of the tube 11 is bent at right angles and has secured to its outer end a perforated outlet head 18 from which the water falls upon the bather. This outlet head 18 may be raised to a desired height in a ready manner by unscrewing the aninut 16 and elevating the tube 11, or it may be lowered after the nut it loosened, by pulling down on the tube. When the outlet head 18 has beenadjusted to the desired height, it may be readily turned in the hori- Zontal plane or that height to bring it to the desired lateral position. Thereafter, by tightening the jam-nut 16, the outlet head will be firmly held in its adjusted, position without fear of any water leaking past said nut. It will thus be seen that I have provided an easi1y-adjustab1e, noneleaking and readily-attachable shower bath Xture.
Having described my invention, I claim: 1. In a device of the type described, the
combination with e. vertical tube, of a tube telescoping into the upper portion of the latter, an outlet head Carried by the secondtube, a casting secured to the bottoni of the 'first tube, e horizontal inlet tube integra-1 with one side of said casting', and an integral hook shaped jaw projecting `from the other sident said casting, a tubular threaded enlargement on the end of said jew, below the combination with a vertical tube, of means 'for admitting water to said tube, from the faucet of a bath tub, atube telescoping into the irst tube, an outlet head carried by the second tube, zt casting with which said rst tube and Water-admitting means are connected7 a hook-shaped jaw on said casting adapted to t over the curved edge of a. bath tub, a tubular threaded-enlargement on the end of said'jaw, and a thumb-screw adapted to be passed through said tubular enlargement into engagement Ywith the lower surface of the bath tub rim, irmly to hold the casting' and connections thereon.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my handthiellth day of October, 1919.Y
