Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIoE.
PETER A. VOGT, OF BUFFALO, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN DOORS FOR REFRIGERATQRS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 136,629, dated March 11, 1873.
To all whom it may cmcern:
Be it known that I, PETER A. VOGT, of the city of Buffalo, in the count-y of Erie and State of New York, have invented an Improvement in Refrigerators, of which the following is a between the door proper and its sheet-metal backing, and projecting around the four sides sufficientlyfto form a packing between the door and jam on three sides, while the joint at the hinge side is'eovered without strain upon the hinges. y
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a perspective view; and Fig. 2, a horizontal section of my improved refrigeratondoor.
Like letters designate like parts in both of the figures.
A represents the door of a refrigerator openin g into the provision compartment; B,the metallic lining thereof; and U, the strip of rubber inserted between the lining B and the edge of the door, where it is clamped and securely held by the hinge and the nails by which the latter is fastened in place. This rubber strip extends around the edge of the door on all sides, and is made to project sutficiently from the edge thereof to insure a tight joint under all circumstances.
By means of my improvement the doors of a refrigerator can be rendered air-tight at the trifling cost of the rubber strips, which are secured in place in the cheapest and most reliable manncr.
" VVhat'I claim as my invention, is-
In combination with a refrigerator-door, the rubber packing-tongue 0, arranged between the door and its linin gin the manner described, so that the closing of the door will cause the tongue to turn at the hinge side in a reverse direction to that taken atthe otherthree sides, thus relieving the hinges from unnecessary strain.
