UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EXERCISING HORIZONTAL BAR.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented J an. 18, 1921.
Application filed January 26, 1920. Serial No. 354,237.
To all n: ham it may concern: 1
Be it known that we, GEORGE E. BARDWELL and HATTIE L. FULLER, citizens of the United States, residing at Christmas, in the county of Gila and State of Arizona, have invented new and useful Improvements in Exercising Horizontal Bars, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to physical exercisers and has for its object to provide an exercising horizontal bar that can be readily mounted in dwellingsor other buildings, and further has for its object to provide a device that is inexpensive-in cost of construction, and therefore, can be sold at a reasonable price; and which. also provides for ready adjustment in the arrangement of its parts to be used for exercising purposes, and also enables the device to bereadily disconnected so that the parts can be set in position of non-use, as for instance, when the deviceis mounted in a door frame.
The invention consists of the construction, combination, and in details and arrangements of the parts, an embodiment of which invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and described and claimed hereinafter.
The figure is a perspective of the device mounted in a door-way, one of the brackets being partially broken away.
The instrument is shown as consisting of a pair of substantially duplicate channel iron members Qand 3 with the parallel flanges 5 of each providcdwith a series of apertures orpinholes 4, the series of holes in each flange 5 arranged in alinement with each other so that a bolt or pivot pin, as 6, can be readily passed across the flanges of the chanel iron or strip to be inserted through the eye formed therefor in the adj acent end of a horizontal bar 7. The horizontal bar 7 having an eye at each end can be securely bolted at the desired elevation along the channel irons 23. These irons have their webs 8 perforated to receive fastening screws 9 bywhich the channel irons can be securely but readily fastened to the jambs of a door-way, as shown at 10. hen it is desired to use the device for exercising purposes one or the other of the bolts or pins 6 can be utilized as a pivot and connecting device for attaching the rod 7 to one of the channel irons, and the rod can then be swung from the vertical positionindicated in dotted lines to the transverse horizontal position in full lines when the other bolt 6 can then be inserted and the rod securely fastened in the useful position.
It is obvious that various changes may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed is;
A horizontal bar exercising device comprising a bar of channel supporting brack ets adapted to be attached to upright members said brackets having a series of spaced apertures extending transversely through their flanges in register relation, and a bar having eyes at each end adapted to be inserted between the flanges of the brackets to receive supporting pins therethrough and support it in a horizontal position, said bar adapted to be disconnected at one end and swing downwardly in oneof said channel brackets between the flanges thereof when not in use. 7
In testimonv whereof we have signed our names to this specification.
GEORGE E. BARDWELL.
HATTIE L. FULLER.
