JACOB. EL'VYN, OF CHIGAGOpILL-INOIS.
INDICATOR.
Original application filed August 24, 1914, Serial No. 858,386.
Specification of 'Letters Patent.
Patented J an. 11, 1921.
Divided and this application filed January 5, 1920. Serial No. 349,362.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JAoon W. ELVYN, a citizen of the United States, residin at Chicago, in the county of Cook and tate of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Indicators, of which the following is a full, clear, concise, and exact description, reference being had .to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.
This invention relates to memorandum indicators and is divisional of my prior application for patent, Serial No. 858,386, filed August 24:, 1914:, and the principal object of the present invention is to provide a convenient, economic and durable memorandum indicator for making notes, in the way of reminders, or making records for temporary preservation, and is concerned with an improved construction wherein a plate is provided with the different articles named printed thereon, and suitable means on the plate for designating the particular article to which attention is to be called.
It will appear to those skilled in the art that my invention may be employed for a large number of different purposes, where memoranda or temporary records are de sired, but for the purpose of this disclosure I shall illustrate and refer to certain uses which I find most popular.
Accordingly I have illustrated a household reminder, wherein are indicated various articles necessary for use in the kitchen, but it will be readily apparent that any other articles might be as readily desig-.
nated. b
Other objects and advantages of my invention will appear from the following detailed description and the claims, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 illustrates my memorandum indicator in the form of a kitchen reminder, and
Fig. 2 is across sectional view taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1, looking in the direction of the arrows.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, it will be seen that I provide a back plate 1 having an opening 2 in a lug 3 formed on the upper end thereof. This is for the purpose of hanging the plate at a convenient point. bers 4-4;, mounted on regularly arranged pivot eyelets 5-5, these indicator members being peculiarly arranged relative to the list of commodities, such as ammonia, bacon, etc. This specific and peculiar arrangement has the idea of devoting one indicator member to two commodity items, just as the upper left hand indicator 4 is devoted to both ammonia and bacon. If one desires to make a memorandum of ammonia, the indicator member is pointed toward that name, and if the memorandum is to be for bacon the indicator member would be pointed toward that name as indicated in dotted lines. If both commodities are desired the indicator would be pointed to the bracket 6, as in the case of the indicator member at the lower righthand corner of the member 1, where it will be seen that memorandum is made of both meat and potatoes.
I provide an improved form of mounting the members 4t4i, which is shown in detail in Fig. 2. The pivot members are designated in their entireties by the numeral 5, as hereinbefore and consist of eyelets 8, which pass through suitable registering openings 9 and 10 formed in the member 1 and in said indicator members 4, respectively. The free peripheral edges of the eyelets 8 are rolled to form flanges 11 for engaging the member 1 and said indicator members. As illustrated, the pivot eyelets are regularly arranged so as to present an attractive appearance and so that their arrangement on the member 1 will be symmetrical.
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States:
1. In combination, a plate having a plurality of commodities symmetrically arranged in vertical pairs of columns consisting of multiple groups of items, a plurality of individual indicator arms for each group arranged symmetrically adjacent the unit items of each group, and eyelets passed through said indicator arms on which the latter are pivoted, said arms being movable to indicate one of the items of a group or the entire group, and the contiguous indicator arms being relatively oppositely ar- I provide indicator mem-- 2 1,.sa4,9se
ranged when pointing toward a representation of a commodity.
2. In combination, a plate having a plurality of groups of representations of com- 5 modities arranged in vertical symmetrically spaced pairs of rows, and an individual pointer for each group pivoted to swing posite the pointer of the contiguous row.
In Witness whereof, I hereunto subscribe my name this 2nd day of January, 1920.
JACOB W. ELVYN.
