UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FERDINAND TIMM AND THEODOR FANTINI, OF STAPLETON, NEV YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN CIGAR-TIP CUTTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 136,285, dated February 25, 1873.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that we, FERDINAND TIMM and TEEoDoE FANTINI, both of Stapleton, in the county of Richmond and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Cigar- Outter and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear7 and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, in which drawing- Figure l represents a sectional side view of this invention. Fig. 2 is a transverse section ot' the same.
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts.
rlhis invention relates to a device for nippin g od' the tip or closed end of a cigar previous to smoking, so as to form a perfect passage throu gh which to inhale the smoke of the cigar. My invention consists in the arrangement of a cutting-knife between ltwo plates containing corresponding apertures of diiferent diameter placed above a suitable case or receptacle for receiving or catching the cigar-cuttin g, in such a manner that, if the cigar end is inserted in one of said 'apertures and the knife brought down, the tip of the cigar is cut off therefrom and caught in the receptacle, and the cigar is then in a condition to be smoked. By providing several openings 'with different diameters our cutter is applicable to cigars of all sizes.
In the drawing, the letter A designates' a box or case, which may be of any desired form or shape, and which is provided on its upper side with an opening'. On the edge of this opening, and at right angles to the box, is secured a cigar-cutter, Cfconsistin g of two plates,
a a, which are provided with apertures b b of different diameters, and between which plates is arranged a cutting-knife, D, which is operated by means of a handle arranged on one end thereof, its opposite end bein g pivoted between the plates a c, so as to allow of its swinging up and down.
When the cigar is to be cut oft, the knife D is swung up, and the tip of the cigar is inserted in one of the holes or apertures b b, and, the knife being made to descend, the tip is nipped oft without breaking or crumbling up the cigar, and the cigar-tips fall into and accumulate in the box A, and, if desired, may be put to use.
By providing holes or apertures of dierent sizes, the tip of the cigar may be cut oft' to any desired extent, and another advantage is that it accommodates cigars of different sizes.
It will be observed that the plates a chave corresponding apertures opposite each other, on each side of the cutter, thus supporting the cigar on both sides, and enabling the knife to cut the same off without splitting it.
What we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The arrangement of a cutting-knife, D, between two plates, a a, containingk corresponding apertures b b of different diameters, placed above a suitable box ory receptacle, A, for receiving or catching the cigar-cuttin gs, as and for the purpose described.
