To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GUSTAV KORINEK, a citizen of the Unfid States of America, residing at Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Jointed Arms for Filing-Machines and Similar Devices, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing. 1
The invention relates to machines of that type in which the work is supported upon a table or bed and the operating tool is carried by a laterally projecting arm extending over said table or bed. It is the object of the invention to obtain a construction in which the arm may be quickly thrown back to clear the tool from the work and to permit of placing the work on the table or removing the same. it is a further object to obtain a construction of great rigidity when the arm is in normal position so as to form the work without lost motion or vibration. Another feature of the invention is the means for securing the tool to the arm, which permits of quickly setting the same at the proper angle,

A is the bed or table supported on a suitable standard B. C is a crank shaft journaled in the standard and connected by a pitman rod D to a vertically slidable mem ber E. F are arms extending laterally from the member E and having mounted thereon the vertical post G,-which clears one side of the table, and H is an arm extending from the post G over the table and to which the tool, such for instance as a file, is secured.
To form a connection between the post Gr and the arm H, which will permit of throwing back of the latter, and at the same time will provide rigidity when in normal position, I have devised the following construction: The post G has a portion I at its upper end reduced in thickness, which portion is embraced by a bifurcated downwardly extending angle portion of the arm H. Memhers I and J are pivotally secured to each other by a pin or bolt K at the lower end 7 and at the upper end of the member I there is a slotted bearing L for engaging a second pin or bolt M. The bearing L is so fashioned that when the pin M engages the same and is hearing against the end of the slot, the arm H will be in its normal position. To
hold theparts in this position, there is provided a latch member N, preferably in the form of a lever, which engages a slot in the lateral portion of the arm H and is pivoted therein at O. P is an operating knob or pin which passes through an aperture in the arm 1-1 and engages the outer end portion of the lever N, and Q is a spring sleeved upon said pin P for retracting the same. The opposite end of the latch N is so fashioned that when the arm H is in normal position, it will drop behind the portion I and engage an incline or wedge-shaped bearing R- thereon. This will force the pin M against the end of the slot L and will take up all lost motion, so that the arm H will be held in rigid'position,
At the free end of the arm H there is arranged a clamping device, by which a file or other tool may be clamped at different angles to the arm. This clamp comprises a member S having a shank S engaging a socket in the end of the arm H and securedtherein by a set screw T or other fastening means. Th member S has formed on its front face a concave segmental bearing U, which is engaged by a block V having a convex segmental face. The block V has an angle bracket V thereon engaging an adjusting screw W by which the block may be adjusted to different positions in engagement with the concave segment U. This will cause a change in the angular relation and the outer face of the block, which is preferably grooved'as indicated at V for engagement with one edge of the'tool. X 's a strap engaging the member S and block V having at its outer end a bearing for engaging the opposite side of the tool, and Y is a clamping screw engaging the strap and member S for placing a clamping pressure upon the tool. Thus with the construction just described, the tool may be firmly clamped to the arm and its angle may be adjusted by varying the position of the block V by means of the adjusting screw W.
With the construction as described, when work is to be placed upon the table or removed therefrom, the knob P is pressed to disengage the latch member N and permit cated to embrace the other, a pivotal connection between the end of the angle portion of'said arm member and said post member, a stop on said arm member for engaging the upper portion of said post member, and a locking latch on said arm member for engaging said post opposite said stop to hold said members in rigid relation.

The combination of a post member and an arm member having an angle portion arranged parallel to a portion of said post, one of said members being bifurcated to embrace the other, a pivot pin connecting the end of the angle portion of sald arm member to said post member, a pm in the embracing member engaging a slotted bearing .in the embraced member at a point near the end of said post member forming a stop for limiting the movement of said arm on its pivot, and a latch member forming an opposed bearing for limiting the swinging of said-arm in the opposite direction.

The combination with a post member having a portion near its upper end reduced in thickness, of an arm member having an angle portion bifurcated to embrace the reduced'portion of said post member, a pivot pin connecting'the end of said angle portion with said post member, a slotted bearing near the upper end of said post member, a pin in-said' arm member extending between the furcations thereof and engageable with said slotted bearing in the post member to form a stop for limiting the pivotal movement of the arm member in one direction,
and a latch member pivoted between the furcations of said arm member for. engaging said post and forming a stop for limiting the swinging movement of said post member in the opposite direction.
4. The combination with a post member having an upper end portion reduced in thickness, of an arm member having an angle portion and bifurcated to embrace the reduced portion of said post member, a pivot pin for connecting the end of the angle portion of said arm member to said post member, a pin extending between the furcations of said arm member adjacent to the upper end of said post member, a slotted bearing in said post member for engaging said pin, and a latch member arranged between the furcations of said arm member having a cammed surface for engaging said post member and forming a stop for holding said pin againstsaid slotted bearing to give rigidity to thearm.
5. The combination with a post member, 7
of an arm member hinged thereto and a toolengaging clamp at the end of said arm mem-' ber, comprising a member pivoted to said arm member about an axis extending longitudinally of said arm member, a'segmental bearing on said pivoted member concentric with an axis transverse to said arm, a member having a cooperating segmental member, and an opposed clamping face,means for adjusting the latter member around its segmental bearing to change the angle of the clamping face, a strap for embracing both of said members having an opposed clamping bearing, and a screw for adjusting said strap to effect the clamping at whatever angle said members are adjusted;

The combination with a post member having an upper end portion reduced in thickness, 9f an arm member having an angle portion and bifurcated to embrace the reduced portion of said post member, a pivot pinfor connecting the end of the angle portion of said arm member to said post member, a pin extending between the furcations of said arm member adjacent to-the upper end of said post member, a slotted bearing in said post member for engaging said pin, and a latch member arranged between the fur-cations of said arm member for engaging said post member and forming a stop for holding said pin against said'slotted bearingand means engaging said latch member adapted to either release or automatically hold the same in locked relation with the upper end of said post member. a
