ATTAOHMEN T FOR GRINDSTONES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 22, 1909.
Application filed September 21, 1908. Serial No. 453,986.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH SYLvEsTRE, a citizen of the United States, residing at White Sulphur Springs, in the county of Meagher, State of Montana, United States of America, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Grindstones; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exactdescription of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention to be hereinafter described relates to supports to be used in connection with emery wheels, grindstones or the like for holding blades or tools to be sharpened.
The main objects of the invention are to provide a tool support which may be readily attached or detached and which will have all desirable adjustments.
Broadly speaking, it comprises a block provided with a clamping device by which it may be secured in place, a yoke hinged to the block, a bar revolubly mounted in the yoke, a frame adjustably mounted on the bar, and a table slidably mounted on the frame.
In order to more clearly disclose the con struction, operation and use of the invention, reference should be had to the accompanying drawings forming part of the present application.
Throughout the several views of the drawings like reference characters designate the same parts.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device, as applied; Fig. 2 is a right hand view of Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is a plan view of Fig. 1.
A base block 1 of suitable form and material is provided. To this block is hinged, or otherwise similarly connected at 2, the yoke 3 in which is revolubly mounted a bar or rod 4. The bar 4: is provided with a transverse opening adapted to revolubly receive a pin 5 which is rigidly secured to a frame 6 having dove-tailed arms 7 adapted to fit slidably into cooperating mortises on or in the lower face of a table 8 on which the tool is to be supported. When the bar 1 has been revolved to give the table 8 the desired inclination it may be locked in this position by means of the set screw 9 which takes through the arm of the yoke 3 and into the bar at. The yoke 3 and block 1 mav be similarly locked in operative position by means of a second set screw 10.
Through the construction above disclosed three separate and distinct adjustments of the table 8 may be effected :1st. the table may be slid bodily along the arms 7 of the frame 6 toward the emery wheel; 2nd. the frame 6 and its table 8 may be inclined by revolving the shaft 1; and, 3rd. the table may be swung at an angle to the yoke 3 by means of the pin 5.
Should it be desired to render the device temporarily inoperative it is simply necessary to loosen set screw 10 and swing the yoke 3 back on its pivot to inoperative position. The blade or tool to be sharpened may be locked or fastened to the table by any desired means.
In order to clamp the device to the support of the emery wheel a threaded rod 11 and cooperating clamping jaw 12 have been provided. The rod has one end revolubly seated in the block 1. Thus, as the rod is rotated the block will be fed in one direction or the other thereon. When moving in one direction it will cooperate with the block 1 to clamp therebetween the support of the emery wheel. When moving in the other direction the reverse will, of course, be true.
It is thought that the operation and application of the device will be clear from the preceding detailed description.
Many changes may be made in the construction, arrangement and disposition of the details of the several parts and many substitutions for these parts may be resorted to without in any way departing from the field and scope of the present invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A device of the character described, comprising a base block, a yoke hinged thereto, a rod adjustably mounted in the arms of said yoke and extending substantially at right angles thereto and provided with an opening, a frame provided with a pin adapted to fit into said opening, and a table carried by said frame.
'2. A device of the character described, comprising a base block, a yoke connected thereto, a rod mounted in the arms of said yoke to have both rotary and longitudinal adjustment relatively to said yoke, a frame pivotally supported by said rod and adapted to oscillate in a horizontal plane above said rod and to turn in a vertical plane with said rod, and a table carried by said frame.
3. A device of the character described, comprising a base block, a yoke connected thereto, a rod mounted in the arms of said yoke to have both rotary and longitudinal adjustment relatively to said yoke, a frame pivotally supported by said rod and adapted to oscillate in a horizontal plane above said rod and to turn in a vertical plane with said rod, and a table slidably mounted on said frame.
4. A device of the character described, comprising a base block, a yoke connected thereto, a rod mounted in the arms of said yoke to have both rotary and longitudinal. adjustment relatively to said yoke, a frame pivotally supported by said rod and adapted to oscillate in a horizontal plane above said rod and to turn in a vertical plane with said rod, and a table slidably mounted on said frame. 7
In witness whereof I have hereunto set lVitnesses:
W. J. CORKILL, WM. OUELLETT.
