Z To all w tem it may concern vBe it known that I, JAMES I-I. Oma, a subject of the Dominion of Canada, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in GarbageReceptacles7 of which the following is a specification.
One object of my invention is to provide an improved receptacle for garbage or other refuse and which can be readily attached to a fence adjacent a hole therein so that kthe receptacle can be tilted by a collector and the entire contents of the receptacle can be readily removed therefrom.
Another object is to make my invention of a simple and durable construction and so that it can be quickly and cheaply manufactured.
These objects, and other advantageous ends which will be described hereinafter, I attain in the following manner, reference be ing had to the accompanying drawings in which- Figure 1 is a sectional elevation 4showing in full lines my improved receptacle in its normal position and in dotted lines the position of said receptacle having been tilted into a cleaning position,

Referring to the drawings, et represents a fence having a hole 5 therein and 6, represents a can or container which is hinged at 7 above its bottom to the fence et. ik lid S is hinged at 9 to an angle 10 which is secured 'to the inner surface'of the fence 4L and container 6.
A handle 11 is provided whereby the container can be swung on the hinge 7 outwardly through the hole 5. A spring detent l2 is secured to the angle 10 and engages the upper end of the handle 11 so as to prevent the container from accidentally swinging on its hinge. A plate or second bottom 13 is adapted to normally rest on the integral bottom 14 of the container 6; said plate slidably fitting within said container in the direction of its height so that in moving upwardly the peripheral edge of the plate 13 will always be positioned closely adjacent the inner surface of the container. A rod 15 has `its lower end secured to the this lid normallyk closes Vthe open top of the plate 13 and projects upwardly for a portion of its length in a vertical directionA when the container is in itsnormal condition. The upper portion 16 of the rod 15 is preferably extended at a slant as illustrated in Fig. 1 and the extreme upper endy of the krod 15 is provided with a handle 17.

By having the upper portion 16 of the rod 15 extend at a slant, it is an easy matter by a swingingmovementof the'arm for a collector to pull the plate 13y from the container.
While I have described my invention as taking. a particular form, it will be understood that the various parts of my invention may^ be changed without departing from the soirit thereof, and hence I do not limit myself to the precise construction set forth, but consider that I amat liberty to make such changes and alterations asfa'irly come witnin the scope ofthe appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as .new and desire to secure by; Letters Patent is A receptacloof the character described including a hinged container having an opening at its top; plate normally resting en the bottom of said container; and -a rod connected to said plate and having a nor-r `ti'on extending toward the opening of the container whereby said plate can be conveniently pulled toward said yopening to remove the contents of the container when the latter is in a tilted position', said rod having a portion extending at a slant to the axis of said pla-te when the container is in its normal Vand tiltedcoudition; substantially as described.
