, J. L. BOOTH I I GARBAGE" CONTAINER I Filed July 15, 1926 UZZaaZfi awuanto'c Patented Jan. 11, 1927.
UNITED STATES aosnrn L. Boorn, or VIRGINIA, MINNESOTA.
GARBAGE CONTAINER.
Application filed July 13,
This invention relates to a garbage container especially designed for use in connection with kitchen sinks or the like, to the end that parings or other garbage may be readily disposed of.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which may be readily and easily positioned on the usual sink, novel means being provided for securing the container to the sink in a manner to prevent movement of the container.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a container of this character having a cover, the upper surface of the cover being formed with suitable grooves to provide a drain board or support for dishes, pans or the like.
lVith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of theinvention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without v departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure 1 is an elevational view illustrating the container as positioned over one edge of asink.
Figure 2 is a plan view thereof.
Figure 3 is a front 'elevational view of the container.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the reference character 5 indicates a sink to which the container forming the subject matter of the present invention, is secured.
The container is preferably rectangular in forn'iation, however the shape and design of the container may be changed to meet various requirements, and may be constructed of various kinds of material.
Reference character 6 indicates the body portion of the container, which is provided with a hinged cover 7 which in turn is formed with grooves 8 extending towards the forward edge of the cover. The cover is slightly inclined towards the front edge of the container so thatliquid will readily drain from the cover, The hinges for 0011- meeting the cover to the, body portion are indicated at 9 and are so positioned that 1926. Serial No. 122,173.
thecover may be swung to a point adjacent to'the rear wall of the container to permit garbage to be placed therein.
Flanges 10 are formed along the side and rear edges of the cover to prevent material from falling laterally or rearwardly from the cover. As illustrated by Figure 1, the cover is wider than the container to the end that a portion 11 of the cover extends over the upper edge of the sink to which the de vice is secured so that liquid will be directed to the sink, and may not pass between the sink and container.
Secured to the front wall ofthe container 'and'disposed exteriorly thereof are spaced arms 12 which are provided with outwardl curved end portions 13 which are connected by means of the bar 14. These curved portions are designed to hook over the upper edge of the sink, in a manner as shown by Figure 1, to the end that the container is supported in an upright position. The reference character 15 indicates a bracing member which is substantially U-shaped in formation, the legs 16 thereof being formed with elongated openings 17 for the reception of the bolts 18 on which the winged nuts 19 are positioned. Thus it will be seen that due to this con struction, the member 15 may be adjusted towards and away from'the container adapting the device for use in connection with sinks of various shapes.
At the bottom of the container is anarm 20 which is adjustably secured to the con tainer at a point intermediate the sideedges thereof, the bolts 21' and wing nuts 22 be ng provided for holding the arm in its positions of adjustment. One end of the arm 20 extends upwardly as at 23 to engage the sink or supporting structure at a point adjacent to the bottom thereof, to the end that the container is securely held on the sink against movement.
I claim:
A container including a body portion, a pair of arms secured to the body portion and having curved portions adapted to fit over a supporting structure, a substantially U- shapedbar having openings formed therein, said openings being elongated and adapted; tn accommodate bolts, me ns onthe tens rat the bar :2
movement, said bar being disposed intermediate the upper and lower ends of the contener and adapted to engage the supporting structure to hold the container in spaced relation with the supporting structure and an adjustable arm secured to the bottom of the container and adapted t-o engage the "supporting structure to hold the lower portion of the container in spaced relation with the supporting structure.
