To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY A. DAVIS,' a citizen of the United States, andresident of I-lopedale, county of Worcester, State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improve ment in Beam-Locks forLooms, of which the following description, in connection with the accompanying drawing, is-a specification, like characters on the drawing representing like parts.
This invention relates to improvements in beam locks for looms and the object thereof is to provide a novel, simple and effective means for locking the shaft of the warp beam in its bearings in the loom sideswhich may be adjusted to so engage the beam shaft as to prevent vibration thereof during the operation of the loom and to take upany wear which may occur upon the bearing or shaft.
Usual beam locks comprise a locking member which is removed from the loom side whenthe beam is to be replaced and which is again secured in place when the shaft of a newbeam has been introduced into its bearings. Frequently careless workmen fail to replace the locking device which has thus been removed.
A further object of the invention is to provide a beam locking device comprising interengaging members which may be disengaged to permit the removal of the beam shaft, but-which may be so connected as will be unnecessary to remove the movable member from the 100m side;
A further object'of the invention is to provide a beam lock which canbe -more rapidlyoperated than those heretofore constructed and which can be adjusted -to1-se-.

Other objects and features of-the invention will more fully appear from the following description and the accompanying drawings and will be pointed out in the annexed claims.

As illustrated herein the bracket 8 is provided with a boss or flange 10 having a bear ing surface 11 which embraces the larger portion 12 oft-he beam shaft and provides a bearing therefor.- The bracket 8 desirably is also provided with an extension having a concave seat 13 to receive the beam shaft preliminarily to its being introduced into the main bearing 11.
The bracket 8 and boss 10 are provided with an upwardextension 14 which overhangs the bearing 11 and is provided at its end with alateral extension 15, preferably cylindrical in form, which acts as a retainer for the upper end portion of the movable section of the bearing or hold-down which forms the beam lock.
The boss 10 extends downwardly below is a similar view of a beam-lock the bearing 11 to provide an offset box-like structure 16 which provides a recess 17 adapted to receive and permit the adjustment of the head of the bolt which secures the movable bearing section or hold-downextension 20 which is provided with an outer wedge-like or cam'shaped surface 21 which engages the under wall of the cylindrical section 15 of the bracket extension 14. The beam locking member 18 has a downwardly extending portion 22 which is provided near its lower end with a vertical slot 23 which receives a bolt 24 which secures said member tothe bracket. The bolt 24 passes through anarcuate slot 25. in the box like portion 16 of the bracket, the head 26 of the bolt being adapted to be moved along the slot within the recess 17 in the bracket.
The bolt 2a is provided with locking means, preferably in the formof a winged nut 27, a suitable washer 28 being interposed between the winged nut and the wall of the bracket.
The bolt 24 desirably is of such length that the winged nut 27 may be backed off sufficiently to enable the upper end of the member 18 to pass beyond the end of the cylindrical extension 15 so that it can be swung out of position around the bolt 21 as an axis and permitted to hang down along the loom side, out of the way of the beam shaft when the same is moved from the main bearing or when it is beingintroduced into the bearing.
When the beam shaft has been introduced into its bearing the member 18 is swung upwardly and its upper end moved laterally until the extension 20 is placed beneath the cylindrical section 15 of the bracket. 'Pressure is then exerted upon the lower end 22 of the member 18. I This causes the member 1 v 18 to be rotated about the axis of the beam shaft until the wedge shaped or cammed portion 21 of the extension 20 firmly enstruction is disclosed as applied to a different form of bracket 29 which is applied to a different type of loom side 30. The construction of the beam lock otherwise is substantially identical with that illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2.
7 It will be readily understood that the forms of brackets may be varied or if desired the essential mechanisms which are carried by the bracket may be made integral with the loom side within the spirit and scope of my invention.
It will also be understood that other means may be provided for adjustably connecting themovable bearing section orhold-down to the main section within thescope of my invention, the essential features of which consist in providing a wedging or cam shaped instrumentality which maybe adjusted in such a manner as to cause the hold-down properly to retain the beam shaft in the main section of the bearing and thereby prevent vibration of the beam shaft and take up such wear as may occur during the operation of the loom.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A beam locking mechanism for looms comprising a main open bearing section to receive a beam shaft and a movable bearing section, said sections being provided with interengaging members having wedging relation in respect to the portion of the beam shaft engaged by said bearing section and means for securing said movable section in adjusted position whereby the bearing section may be caused to fit properly upon the beam shaft tocompensate for ,wear and to prevent vibration of the beam shaft.
2. A beam locking mechanism for looms comprising a main open bearing section to receive the beam shaft and a movable bearing section, saidbearing sections being provided with detachable interengaging members having wedging relation in respect to the portion of the beam shaft engaged by said bearing sections and adjustable means for securing said bearing sections together.

A beam locking mechanism for looms comprising a main open bearing section to receive the beam shaft and a movable bearing section, said bearing sections beingprovided with detachable interengaging members having wedging relation in respect to the portion of the beam shaft engaged by said bearing sections and adjustable means for securing said bearing sections together .adapted to engage said retaining member and adjustable means for securing said movable section to said main section.
5. A beam locking mechanism for looms comprising a main open bearing section to receive the loom shaft, provided with a retaining member overhanging said open bearing, a movable bearing section having at one end a wedging member presenting a cam face adapted to engage said retaining member, and at the other end means for adjustably securing the same to the main bearing section operable to permit disengagement of the wedging member from said retaining member without removal of the movable bearing section from the loom.
6. A beam locking mechanism for looms comprising a main open bearing section to receive the loom shaft, and provided with a retaining member overhanging said open bearing, a movable bearing section having at one end an extension presenting a cam face adapted to engage said retaining memher, and a depending section, and means for adjustably securing the movable section to the main section including a bolt and slot connection therebetween operable to clamp said movable section in adjusted positions.
7. A beam locking mechanism for looms comprising a main open bearing section to receive the loom shaft, and provided with a retaining member overhanging said open bearing, a movable bearing section having at one end an extension presenting a cam face adapted to engage said retaining member, and a depending section, and means for adjustably securing the movable section to the main section including a bolt passing through slots in said main and movable sections, and a winged nut for said bolt adapted to clamp said sections in adjusted position or to be backed off sufficiently to allow sufficient lateral movement of the movable sec tion' to permit its disengagement from the retaining member.
