JOB BORTON AND WILLIAM H. HARTLEY, OF QUAKER CITY, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN CHURNS.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JOB BORTON and WIL- LIAM H. HARTLEY, of Quaker City, in the county of Guernsey and in the State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improve ments in Uhurns; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompan ying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification.
The nature of our invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a churn, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which our invention appertains to make and use the same, we will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which Figure 1 is a perspective View of our entire churn, and Fig. 2 is a perspective View of the churn dasher and staff.
A represents the box, which is made with inclined ends so that the bottom of the box will be longer than the top. B represents the dasher-staff, the lower end of which is slotted longitudinally for a suitable distance, and in said slot is inserted the dasher O. This dasher is simply a perforated board, and can be raised and lowered at will, according to the amount of cream to be churned, and it is held at any desired height in the slot on the stali' B by a set-screw, b. Through the stafl B passes a rod, a, which rests in suitable bearings formed in or attached to the upper edges of the sides ofthe box A. One end of the rod to is bent downward at right angles on the outside of the box, and to its lower end is secured or attached a weight, D, by means of which the dasher is always balanced.
Having thus fully described our invention, what We claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The dasher-staff B, slotted as described, in combination with the adjustable dasher O and the weighted rod a, as and for the purpose set forth.
