Description

G. w. w|LsoN.
Millstone Balances.
NO 135 740 l Patented Feb.11,1u73.
UNTTED t STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE W. WILSON, OF OHEBANSE, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN IVIILLSTONEBALANCES.`
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 135,740, dated February 11, 1573.
ries of adjustable grooved' or ribbed metallic' weights, the construction and arrangement of which is hereinafter more fully set forth and described.
In the acompanying drawing, Figurel represents a top view of a burr-stone, showing my balancing-band and weights; Fig. 2 is a side view. Fig. 3 is a view of one of the weights detached.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspondin g parts.
A is the stone. B represents the band. C represents the weights. The band is made by riveting together the ends of a piece of band metal (brass or iron.) It is made larger in diameter than the stone, so that the weights may be inserted, substantially as represented in the drawing. The band is tightened around the stone by the weights. The weights are somewhat tapering in form, and are made cir cular on their outer and inner sides, so as to conform somewhat to the circle of the stone and the band. The outer or convex sides of the weights are grooved or ribbed, as seen in the drawing. D represents the grooves or ribs, which extend vertically from top to bottom of the weights.
By grooving the weights or forming ribs thereon, substantially as seen, they do not work out but keep their places.
It will be seen that these Weights may be placed in any part ot' the band, as may be required, to balance the stone.
I do not contlne myself to any particular number of weights or manner ot' adjusting them around the stone.
Having thus described myinvention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A balance for burr-millstones, consisting of the riveted band B, and the grooved or ribbed Weights O, arranged substantially as herein shown and described.
GEORGE WV. WILSON..
