A CORPORATION OF LUNCH-ROOM TABLE.

To @ZZ whom t may coacm Be it known that I, SHERMANA. IIA- THORNE, a citizen. of the United States of America, and a resident of Waukegan, in the county of Lake, State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lunch-Room rlables, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to that class of tables used in lunch rooms and like places, and has for its object:

To provide ay simple and efficient structural formation and association of table parts whereby lightness and strength are provided with ample knee room, and which is adapted to eectively receive the usual coating of vitreous enamel now used on the various lunch room fixtures for sanitary reasons, all as will hereinafter more fully appear.

Figure 1, is a perspective view, with parts removed, of a lunch table of an extended form and embodying the preferred construction of the present invention.

Fig. 4, is a detail horizontal section on line 4-4 Fig. 2.

Fig. 5, is a perspective view illustrating a modified form of the invention as applied to any ordinary length of lunch room tables, the table top being removed to disclose the detail construction of parts.

Fig. 6, is a longitudinal section of the modified structure.

Fig. 7, is a detached perspective view of adjoining portions of a supporting leg, and a longitudinal connecting rail of the modified structure.

Referring to Figs. l to 4 inclusive, of the drawings, 1 designates a supporting leg of the present structure of a rectangular hollow form in cross-section throughout, and comprising in detail a central vertical member 2, a horizontal transverse lower member 3 and downturned members or feet 3 at the respective ends of the lower member 3 aforesaid.

4 designates a connecting girder or rail which in the preferred form ofthe present indicate like invention is of an open or latticed type, of cast metal and having longitudinal upper members 5 of a T shape in cross-section and intermediate and end vertical members 6 of a rectangular form in cross-section, as shown.

7 designate a pair of attaching bolts arranged in vertically separated relation and passing through the end members 6 of the girder 4, and through the upper part of a vertical member 2, of a supporting leg l, to attain a substantial fastening of the parts together.

8 designates a marginal rectangular frame of an angle plate form in cross-section, fixedly attached to the upper ends of the central vertical members 2 of the supporting leg 1, to provide a support for the usual flat top 9 of the table, and which is usually formed of a slab'of white vitreous material with a view to superior sanitary conditions. When a table of an extended length is required one or more intermediate supporting legs l, will be employed, and the marginal supporting frame as well as the table top 9 will be made in sections, to meet the requirements as to table length.

Referring to Figs. 5 to 7 inclusive of the drawings, a single unit table is shown, comprising a pair of end supporting legs 1 of a similar construction to the legs heretofore described, and a single piece of marginal supportingframe 8 attached to laterally eX- tending flanges 10 integrally formed on the upper parts of the central vertical members 2 of the supporting legs 1.

The modification shown in Figs. 5 to 7 inclusive, differs from the rail or girder shown in Figs. 1 to 4 inclusive, in the employment of a rail or girder 1l of structural angle metal, which is bolted or otherwise secured to central vertical ribs or flanges 12 on the upper ends of the central vertical members 2 of the supporting feet l, as shown more particularly in Figs. 6 and 7.

Having thus fully described my said invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

l. In a table, the combination of a plu- -rality of legs, each formed with a hollow rectangular central vertical member and a hollow rectangular lower horizontal member having downturned ends of a like hollow rectangular form, the parts being integrally formed as a single piece casting, a central connecting girder lixedly attached to the upper ends of the aforesaid central vertical members, a marginal frame of an angle form in cross-section securedte the upper ends ol' said central vertical members, and a table top resting 0n said marginal frame and girder.

2. In a table, the combination of a pluw rality of legs, each formed with a hollow rectangular central vertical member and a hollow rectangular lower horizcntal vmember having downturned ends of a like hollow rectangular form, the parts being integrally Jformed as a single piece casting, a central connecting girder fixedly attached to the upper ends of the aforesaid central vertical members, a marginal frame of an angle form in cross-section secured to the `upper ends of the said central vertical members by lateral flanges on said members,and av casting, a central connecting girder fiX edly attached to the upper ends of the.'

4. In a table,the combination, of a plurality of legs, each formed vwith a hollow rectangular central vertical member .and a hollow rectangular lower horizontal member having downturned ends of a like hollow rectangular form, the parts being integrally formed as a single piece casting, a centralvconnecting girder lixedly attached to the upper ends of the aforesaid central Vertical members and comprising upper and lower members of a T form in cross-section and a series of vertical members rectangular in cross-section, a marginal frame ol an angle form in cross section, secured to the upper ends of said central vertical members by lateral flanges on said members, and a table top resting on said marginal frame and irder. g Signed at North Chicago, Ill., this 11th day of Februar 1920.
