G; F. REINHARD SERVICE TABLE Filed April 6, 1951 lN VENTOR c Fragiemok Em'nhard ATTORNEY? v Georg Patented NOV. 8, r if warren STATES SERVICE TABLE Application filed April 6,
The main object of this invention is to provide an improved service table well adapted for use as a banquet table, sample table, or other purposes where knock-down tables are of advantage, which may be made in sections, is quickly set up, and presents ends having an attractive finished appearance and well adapted for use.
Objects pertaining to details and economies of my invention will definitely appear from the description to follow. The invention is defined in the claims.
A structure which embodies the features of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig- 1 is a perspective view of a banquet or service table embodying my improvements, one of the top units being partially broken away.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged fragmentary view partially in section on line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary section on line 33 of Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawing, I provide a plurality of duplicate pedestals preferably consisting of bed pieces 1, central uprights 2 and horizontal footpieces or braces 3. The manner of joining these parts is not illustrated. The pedestals are connected by longitudinal rails 4. 7
Each top unit 5 is provided with cross pieces 6 adjacent to but spaced from its ends, the cross pieces being arranged to engage the sides of the bed pieces with the portions of the top projecting beyond the cross pieces resting upon the bed pieces. The cross pieces are mortised to engage the longitudinal rails as indicated at 7 in Fig. 2.
The pedestals have vertical, centrally-dis posed dove-tailed slots 8 therein adapted to receive the dove-tailed coupling members 9 on the ends of the longitudinal rails so that while the tops are detachably mounted on the pedestals, they are very securely engaged therewith.
I provide extension leaves 10, only one of which is here illustrated. These extension leaves have cross pieces 11 at their outer ends with which thecentralwebs 12 are in supportlng engagement, these central webs 1931. Serial No. 527,597.
12 having coupling members 9 at their inner ends detachably engageable with the dove-tailed slots of the pedestals and supporting the extension leaves with their in- NT' OFFICE ner ends resting upon the pedestals and in abutting relation to the top unit thereon. This permits the use of the end of the table and also makes the table symmetrical and attractive in appearance.
Tables embodying my invention may be quickly set up in desired lengths and are strong and rigid, although easily knocked down and set up. 1 Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desireto secureby Letters Patent is: I I I 1. In a table,-the combinationof a v plurality of pedestals, each comprising ahorizontal'bed piece'and a centrally disposed upright, said pedestals having opposed vertical dove-tailed grooves at their upper ends, a top unit resting upon the bed pieces of an adjacent pair of pedestals, a central longitudinal railprovided with coupling members at its ends detachably engageable with said grooves, and an extension leaf provided with a central supporting web on its under side and a cross piece at its outer end in supporting engagement with said web, said web having a dove-tailed coupling member at its inner end detachably engageable with a groove of one of said pedestals whereby the leaf is supported with its inner end resting upon the bed piece of the pedestal and in abutting relation to the table topunit arranged thereon. V
2. In a table, the combination of a plurality of pedestals, each comprising a horizontal bed piece and a centrally disposed tical dove-tailed grooves at their upper ends, a top unit rest-in upon the bed pieces of an adjacent pair 0 pedestals, a central longitudinal rail provided with coupling members at its ends detachably engageable with said grooves, and an extension leaf provided with a central supporting web on its under side, said web having a dove-tailed coupling member at its inner end detachably engageable with a groove of one of said pedestals whereupright, said pedestals having opposed ver- -9 I by the leaf is supported with its inner end resting upon the bed piece of the pedestal and in abutting relation to the table top unit arranged thereon.
3. In a table, the combination with a plurality of pedestals having opposed vertical dove-tailed grooves at their upper ends,a top unit resting upon .a pair of pedestals, .a central longitudinal rail provided with coupling members at its ends detachably engageable with said grooves, and an extension leaf pro vided with a central support on its under side, said support having a dove-tailed coupling member at its inner enddetachablyengageable with a groove of one of said pedestals whereby the leaf is supported withits inner end restingupon the pedestal and inabutting on. V i 45. In a table, the combination with a plurality of spaced pedestals arranged in line, a plurality of table top sections of equal length 'detachably secured at their ends to said pedestals and arrangedin abutting end to end relation, the joints'being, above-said pedestals, a plurality of rails of equal length disposed below said top sections and detachably secured at their ends to said pedestals, and end'leaves detachably secured to the end pedestals in abutting relation to the endtop sections.
In witness whereof I have hereunto. set my hand. I r GEORGE FREDERICK RElNl-IARD.
