IMPROVEMENT IN TOBACCO-PRESSES.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 135,648, dated February 11, 1873.

To all whom t may concern:

Be it known that l, DUANH LA DU, of Warner, Onondaga county, New York, assigner of myself and JOHN P. HIER, of the city of Syracuse, New York, have invented, as a new article of manufacture, a certain new and useful Tobacco-Press, of which the following is a specification, and a drawing of which is annexed.

The usual method of pressing tobacco in cases has been to have a platform for the case, with two uprights for a cross-beam, screw, and follower.

In my device, A is the frame or base for the case to rest upon during the packing, which it isbetterto haverest upon wheels. Underthe frame A, near the middle, is the shaft S, which has chains C C attached to it of sufficient length, with the loop at the top, to reach the cross-beam B and properly operate. At each end ofthe shaft S I place ratchet-wheels` W W', with the ordinary dogs d d and lever-sockets L L. The cross-bea1n B has the usual follower F to press the tobacco into the case l?, placed on the frame A.

The manner of applying the lever and operating the press will be obvious to any one.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, as a new' article of manufacture, i's- A tobacco press, made in the form and operated substantially as described.
