sna vrsiaiivnnnfoovnai 3 Application filed October 15, isiefiseriarno;330,752.f
T 0 all whom it may concern? i Be it known thatI, MICHAEL S. BAssIsrY,
a citizen of Russia, residing at New York, county of New York, and State of New York, have invented certain'new and'useful lmprovements'in Seam-Binder C0vers,of which the following is a specification This invention has as its object the provision of a receptacle for holding binding material upon the surface of a sewing machine table, in proximity to the needle and sewing attachment. i i
' A further object is to provide a holder adapted to contain one or two rolls of the binding inaterial, the same being fed 'out ward through openings having rolled or beaded edges preventing damage to the tape or binding material. I
These objects, are attained by the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter described, and shown in the accom-- panying drawings forming a material part of this disclosure, and in which Figure 1 is a top plan view showing a holder made in accordance with the invention, and indicating its application.
Fig. 2 is a side elevational view of the same.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged top plan view of the holder in detail. Fig. 4 is a side elevational view thereof;
Fig. 5 is a transverse sectional view taken on line 5-5 of Fig. 3.
Fig. 6 is' a fragmentary transverse sectional view taken on line 6-6 of Fig. 4.
Fig. 7 is a fragmentary front View showing the connecting means between the several containers.
Fig. 8 is a fragmentary vertical sectional view taken on line 8-8of Fig. 3, and,
Fig. 9 is a side elevational view of a single binding receptacle.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the numeral 10 indicates a seam binding attachment for a sewing machine to which it is connected by the slotted bracket 1.1, allowing adjustment due to the clamp screw 12.
Resting upon the top of the sewing machine table, is the base 15 of the device and formed with the base isa tubular thimble 16, having a conical upper end 17 and adapted to be disposed over a pin or plug set in the table upon which the thimble is readily rotatable.
An annular beading 18 is formed with the base element 15, the same having an upwardly turned reverse curve 19, and
downwardly flanged periphery 20. Resting upon the base is a'flplate 21, on which the roll of tapefor binding material may be disposed. I v V v Theinterioredge surrounding the center opening in the flange is downturned so'as to present norough or sharp edges to abrade or damage the material. Dispos'ed in'intimate -cont a ct;with the LQ FICE- beading 19,"is"an outwardly turned curved flange 23, formed with'thec casing elements 24, acting as" a side wall for the container,
the upper edge ofthe wall 24 being beaded outwardly as at 25,1'a'ndthence formed into a raised cover portion 26, upon'which may be disposed 1 another plate 28, in all respects similar to the plate 21, and having a central opening passingover the thimble 16. The:
downturned peripheraledges29 of the cover plate 26 are 'suitedto engage with the hooklike lower'edges 3O of a second casing 31, having an upper beaded corner 32, from which extends the cover plate 33, terminating in an interior downturned beading 34, adapted tomake contact and be guided by the thimble 16, and containing ,a circular plate 38.
Formed at intervals in the plate 26 and top or cover 33 are radial elongated indentations 35, acting as reinforcements or strengthening elements so as to form a substantially rigid structure.
On opposite sides of the beadedelements 23, 26 and 32 are cut outs 36, 37 and, 38,
the same being in registration and adapted to lock the several plates in proper relation preventing them from turning. Formed through the cylindrical walls 24, 38 and 40, respectively in the upper and lower casing, are openings 11 and 42, the
material adjacent to the openings being folded tightly as at 43 and 44, thereby presenting rounded surfaces against the tape or binding adapted to contact,'as it is unrolled from the interior of the casing in its passage to the sewing machine.
From the foregoing it will be seen that a neat and practical device for containing tape, and binding disposed in a rolled form, through which the thimble 16 is adapted to extend, for guiding and supporting the same and that as the extended ends of the material are withdrawn they are prevented from becomingabraded' or otherwise injured in passage to the needle.
' Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is Y 1. In a device of the class described, the combination with a base having a central hollow thimble formed therewith, a cover disposed over said base, said cover having extending angular flanges engaged with the periphery of said base, a disk disposed on said base adapted to receive a roll of binding material, and means for maintaining said cover in propeiwrelz'ition in said base, the side walls of said cover containing openings having reentrantly turned edges whereby the binding is prevented from becoming damaged.
2. In a device of the class described, the combination with a cylindrical casinghaving a base, a cover and a horizontal partition therein, means formed with said base extending through said cover and partition, means for holding said cover and partition in alinement with said base, beadings formed with a periphery of said base and cover, a plurality of longitudinally extending radial depressions formed in said base and cover, adapted to act as reinforcements, and means permitting the egress of tape in said casing without damage to the same.
3. In a device of the class'described, the combination with a cylindrical casing comprising a base and cover, a second casing disposed thereover, a tubular sleeve formed with said base and extending through said cover and said second casing, said base being adapted to be attached to av pin upon whichit may be rotated, beadings formed at the peripheral edges of said base and cover, reinforcing device's formed with said cover and base, and means permitting the passage of material from compartments in said casing without damage to the same.
4. In a device of the class described, the combination with a base plate, a hollow standard formed therewith, said standard being adapted to act as a pivot by which said base'may be positioned, a hollow cylindrical casing arranged over the base, a second casing arranged over the first named casing, said second casing being guided by said plate, reinforcing means integrally formed with said casing, means for preventing the respective rotation of said casing, and base and passages formed in the peripheral walls of said casing having their edges reentrantly turned providin curved surfaces adapted to contact with t e material as it is withdrawn upon the casing.
' In testimony WhereofI have affixed my signature;
7 MICHAEL s. BASSISTY.
