y//WW PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH DELPHIS DAOUST, 0F MONTEBELLO, QUEBEC, CANADA.
WINDOW-SASI-I LOCK.
Application led October 24, 1919.
To all whome'zf may concern Be it known that I, .IosnPH DELrHis DAoUsT, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Montebello, Province of Quebec, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in IfVindow-Sash Locks; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The present invention relates to window sash locks more particularly adapted ior railway coaches and the principal object is to provide an automatically operable lock of the Character set forth.
Another object of the invention is to provide a window sash lock that is directly actuated by the single pressure ot a button element.
lith the above and other objects in view which will hereinafter appear as he deseription continues, the invention consists of the novel. features of construction. combination and formation of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the accompanying claim.
In the accompanying drawings has been shown a simple and preferred form of the invention, it being, however, understood that no limitation is necessarily made to the precise structural details herein exhibited, but the right is hereby reserved to any changes, alterations or mor. iiications to which recourse be had that come within the scope of the claim without departing from the spirit of the invention or sacrificing the eiiiciency of the same.
In the accompanying drawings:
The igure illustrated is a. sectional view of the lock as applied to a window sash.
In the drawings, the numeral 17 designates the plunger and the latter is a eontinnation of a rod 18 which is operable in a tubular casing 19 and Carries adjacent one end a disk member 20. A coil spring 2l encircles the rod l8,.being disposed between the inner end of the tubular casing 19 and the disk member 20. and which serves to normally tension the rod 18' outwardly,\ and consequently the plunger 17 into engagement with the teeth of the window frame rack 22. A leaf spring 23 is secured at one end to the lock casing and Specieation of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 12, 1920.
Serial No. 332,998.
. carries a button 24, and said spring is adapted to come in Contact with the upper arm of a lever 25 pivotally mounted in the lock casing. The lower arm of said lever 25 engages the outer face of disk 20.
plunger rod 26 is mounted in a tubular strap member 27 and said rod has journaled on one end a spear shaped head 28 adapted for engagement with the upper part of the lever 25. The opposite end of said rod 26 carries a button 29 which operates within a cylindrical casing 30 and by pushing in on the button 29, the rod 2G 4is'thus pushed inwardly, and the head 28 carried thereby engages the upper end of lever 25 causing it to be rocked on its pivotal mounting. Consequently the lower end of lever 25 will engage the disk 20 and thus retract the rod 18 and plunger 17 from engagement with the rack teeth 22. Upon releasing button 29, the coil spring will cause the plunger 17 to return to normal locking position.
'I'o hold the plunger 17 within the lock casing, the leafrspring 23 is depressed by pressing down upon button 24, so as to retain the lever 25 in its moved position.
t is obvious that by this construction, positive locking means is assured, and the lockingk elements are positively and directly actuated.
Having thus fully Vdescribed the inven- Y tion, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
The combination with a window frame rack, of a lock including a tubular casing,
ia rod slidably mounted in said casing and adapted for engagement with the window Atrame rack, a disk member arranged on said rod, a coil spring-mounted on said rod between the casing and disk and normally tensioning said rod into engagement with the said rack, another cylindrical Casina arrangedV in said lock. a plunger, slidably mounted in said casing, a lever pivotally connected to said lock and having its opposite ends adapted for engagement by said Y plunger and disk, and a 'blade spring attached to the said look and adapted for adjustment to hold the said rod from engagement with the said window frame rack.
In witness whereof I have hereunto 'set my hand.
