Be it known that I, EDITH FRITZ, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York,

have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Paper-Files, of which the following is a specification. 4

This invention relates to paper filing de vices for clippings and the like.

The object of the invention is to provide a simple and efficient device of this character so constructed that in order to remove a paper strung thereon all that is necessary is to slip the various papers around until the required paper is reached and then open the file and remove the paper.

Another object is to provide an annular file formed of a strip having its ends detachably connected so that the papers strung thereon may be shifted similar to keys on a key ring and the ring then opened, the paper removed, and the ring again closed.

Another object is to so connect the ends of the split ring that the papers may be slid around over the joint without being retarded or torn.

With the foregoing and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention,

The annular file constituting this invention is preferably constructed of a piece of heavy wire of any desired length according to the size of the ring which it is desired to in form. One end of the wire strip 1 is enlarged as shown at 2 and provided with a longitudinally extending socket 3 into which Specification of Letters Patent.

This socket 3 corresponds approximately in diameter to the diameter of the end 4 which end carries a nib or enlargement 6 at its terminal and said socket has an annular groove or recess 5 formed in one side wall to receive the nib or enlargement 6 on the end 4, said nib springing into the groove 5 when end 4: reaches the limit of its inward movement and thereby retains the ends connected.

In the use of this improved file, papers of any character, such as receipts and the like, may be strung thereon by separating the ends 2 and 4 and using the smaller end 4 to puncture the papers. After the desired number have been placed thereon these ends are interlockingly engaged by inserting one within the other.

When it is desired to remove a paper, all

that is necessary is to locate the paper de- I sired to be removed, then Slide the others around on the ring until the desired paper is positioned adjacent the joint which connects the ends 2 and 4. The ring is then opened by pulling out the end 4 from the socket 3, the paper taken ofi, and the ring again closed.

It will be seen that by so connecting the ends of this ring the papers may be moved around in the direction of the arrow a Without encountering any obstructions, hence any retarding of the movement of the papers is avoided and all'pos'sibility of their becoming torn is prevented.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the advantages of the construction and of the method of operation will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art to which the invention appertains and while I have described the principle of operation of the invention together with the device which I now consider to be the best embodiment thereof, I desire to have it understood that the device shown is merely illustrative and that such changes may be made as are within the scope of the claimed invention.
