Description

R. MORRIS.
CURTAIN SECURER.
APr'LICATION FILED DEC. 10, 1919.

PATENT ()FFICE.
RACHEL MORRIS, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
CURTAIN-SECURER.
Application filed December 10, 1919.
To all to 720m it may concern Be it known that I, RACHEL Mourns, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Curtain-Securer, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in window curtain securers, and it is the primary object of the invention to provide a device of this character to be attached to a window frame, so that the same may secure the curtain associated therewith against movement when the window is open.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which may be folded to a position in parallel relation with the window frame, when the same is not in use.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the 1nvention.
Referring to the drawing Figure 1 is an elevational View of the device as applied to a window frame, the clamping arm being hown in its operative position, in dotted lines.
Fig. 2 is an elevational view of the same when in its inoperative position.
Fig. 3 is a side elevational view of the securing device in an extended position.
Fig. 4L- is a sectional view taken on line 41- 1 of Fig. 3.
Fig. 5 is a detail view of one of the caps.
Fig. 6 is a detail view of the opposed cap.
Fig. 7 is a sectional view taken on line 7-7 of Fig. 8.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the reference character 5 designates a bracket, which includes a relatively short strip of metal apertured as at 6 to receive securing screws or nails, to enable the same to be positioned on the window frame to which the same is to be applied.
A rib 7 is formed substantially intermediate the length of the bracket member Specification of Letters Patent.

5, and extendslongitudinally thereof for cooperating with the recessed portion 8 formed in the metallic cap 9 supported on one end of the arm 10, to be hereinafter more fully described.
An aperture 11 is formed in one end of the arm 10, which aperture registers with the aperture 12 formed in the bracket 5, the registering apertures accommodating the pivot pin 13 for securing the arm to the bracket, but permitting of free movement of the arm with relation to the bracket 5.
It will be seen that due to this construction when the arm 10 is moved to its opera-- tive position, the rib 7 is disengaged from the recessed portion 8 of the cap 9, to permit the arm 10 to move to an angle to properly grasp or support the curtain associated therewith.
Pivotally secured to the outer end of the arm 10, is a relatively short clamping arm 14 which is provided with a cap 15 having the lugs 16 stamped therefrom and cooperating with the walls of the openings 17 formed in the cap 18, carried by the outer end of the arm 10.
The pivot pin 19 which provides the connection between the arm 10 and arm 1 L, passes through suitable openings formed in the respective arms 10 and 14, the same being constructed to permit a free pivotal movement of the arm 14 with relation to the arm 10, a predetermined distance.
In operation, the arm 10 is moved from its folded position, to a position at right angles with relation to the frame'of the window to which the same is applied, the curtain is then positioned over the upper edge of the arm 10. The relatively short clamping arm 14: is now moved downwardly toward the frame of the window, as indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 1 of the draw ing until the same contacts with the upper surface of the curtain.
From the foregoing it is obvious that the relatively short arm 14 cooperates with the upper edge of the arm 10 for clamping the curtain to secure the same against movement caused by the wind passing through an open window.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new is A. window curtain securing device includ ing a racket, an arm having pivotal connection with the bracket, a clamping arm pivotally connected to the first mentioned as my own, I have hereto affixed my signaiLI'ID at one side1 thereof, and1 adapted to 'ture in the presence of two witnesses.
ie in aarallel re ation with tie first mentioned ztrm, said clamping arm adapted to 'RAGHEL MORRIS 5 cooperate With the first mentioned arm for Witnesses:
