Abstract
256,373. Brough, G., and Karslake, H. June 25, 1925. Supports attached to cycles. -A prop stand for motor and other cycles, side-oars, &c., of the type pivoted to a laterallyprojecting part, such as a foot-rest or a footboard supporting-bracket, so as to swing outwards into operative position, is provided with a snap-action spring device adapted to hold it in both the operative and inoperative positions. A prop 5 is provided at its upper end with a lug 4, pivoted between a pair of spaced lugs 3 on a pin 6, and pivoted at 12 to a telescopic snap-action spring-control device 8, 9, 10, which is pivoted at 13 to a fixed lug 11, the arrangement being such that the pivot pin 12 moves across a straight line joining the pivots 6, 13 as the prop is swung inwards under the supporting-arm 7 of the foot-rest, or outwards to the operative position shown, the spring-control device holding the prop in both extreme positions. The prop is positively held in its inoperative position by a bevelled detent 16 adapted to enter a. recess 17 in the end of the prop, the pivotal hole for the prop being elongated at 18, so that the prop can be moved against the action of the spring 10 to clear the detent when the prop is to be swung outwards. The prop may be operated by the rider's foot by means of a projection 20, which may be in the form of a bolt for clamping a, telescopic foot 19.
