Be it known that I, O'r'ro E. DENIvEnLE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Mount Vernon, in the county, of Westchester and State of New York, have .inven'ted a new and Improved Dolls Eye, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The invention relates to dolls eyes, preferably of the sleeping type, and provided with eyelashes, and its object is to provide a new and improved dolls eye arranged w1th the eyelashes appearing exceedingly natural when the eyes are in open or in sleeping position. Another object is to permit of securely holding the eyelashes in place and to allow of cheaply manufacturing dolls eyes with eyelashes thereon.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, as hereinafter shown and described and then specifically pointed out in the claim. v

A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

The dolls head 10 is provided with the usual eye sockets 11 in which appear the eyeballs 12 held on a suitable mounting 1 3"of any approved construction and attached to the inside of the head 10. As this mounting forms no part of my present invention further description of the same is not deemed necessary, it being sufiicient to state that the mounting illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2 is of the type for holding the eyes in open position when the doll is upright and to move the eyes into closed position when the doll assumes a lying-down position' Each of the eyeballs 12 is preferably made hemispherical and is provided with an eyelid 20 of quarter spherical shape, glued or otherwise fastened to the upper front portion of the eyeball 12. The eyelid 20 is provided with eyelashes 21 having a foundation 22, preferably made of two strips of tape or other material, between which the rows of hairs forming the eyelashes 21 are glued or otherwise secured. The foundation. 22 is glued or otherwise fastened to the inner face of the eyelid 20 and the hairs project forwardly and downwardly beyond the front lower edge of the eyelid 20 thus extending in front of the eyeball 12 and spaced therefrom. In practice, the eyelid- 20 is preferably made of celluloid or similar material and-the hairs'and foundation are made in the form of a long strip from which portions are cut off for forming an individual fringe to be attached to an eyelid to provide an eyelash thereof.

From the foregoing it will be seen that in a very simple manner the dolls eyes can be provided with eyelids and eyelashes to enhancethe appearance of the doll. It will also be noticed that the dolls eyes and especially the lids and lashes thereof can be very cheaply manufactured Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

' In a dolls eye, an eyelid, and a fringe of hairs secured at one of their ends between layers of material forming a flat foundation to hold the hairs in place, said foundation being secured at one of its outer surfaces to the inner face of the said eyelid with the free ends of the hairs projecting beyond the lower edge of the e elid.
