Be it known that we, FREDERICK F. BU- OHANAN and NEWMAN F. SLACK, citizens of the United States, residing at Machiponga, in the county of Northampton and State of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Package-Ties; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to improvements in package ties.
The object of the present invention is to improve the construction of package ties and to provide a simple, practical and efficient package tie of strong and durable construction adapted to be readily manufactured and equipped with means for clampe ing the cord or other flexible connection as the successive portions are placed in or around it whereby the cord is prevented from accidentally slipping both when placing the package tiearound the package and in the final tying of the cord. 7
A further object of the invention is to provide a package tie of this character which may be readily removed from a package without injuring the device whereby the latter may be used a number of times.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction and novel combination of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and pointed out in the claim hereto appended; it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion, size and minor details of construction, within the scope of the claim, may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.

In applying the cord 4 to the package 9 the fastener is placed against the center of the package at one of the side faces or the top side face thereof and the cord is then passed around the package longitudinally and the free portion is drawn transversely through the fastener between the upper and lower sides of the two approximately U- sha ed loops and then the direction of the cord is changed to pass it transversely around the package at right angles to the longitudinal loop, or package encircling portion. It is then drawn through the loop and passed around the end of the fastener and back of the projecting terminal 10 of the clamping tongue so that there will be no liability of the cord accidentally slipping out of the fastener. The clamping tongue engages the cord and coasts With the side loops Which constitute the body portion of the fastener. The package tie is adapted to be readily applied to a package and is capable of being easily and quickly removed therefrom Without injuring the fastener and When one cord has Worn out another may be substituted for the Worn cord.
What is claimedis:
A package tie comprising a single Wire bent to form an eye and a fixed jaW and spring jaw, the fixed jaw extending sub stantially to the eye and the spring inclined directly upward from the eyeto yieldingly 15 oppose the fixed jaw.
