IMPROVEMENT IN FASTENINGS FOR SASH"ROPES.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 135,368, dated Januzuy 28, 1873.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, LESTER RUSSELL, of Otsego, in the county of Allegan and in the State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sash-Rope Fastenings; and do hereby declare that the followin g is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification.

The nature of my invention consists in a device, formed of wire, to be placed in a window-sash and driven therein for the purpose of fastening the sash-rope to the same, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.

In the annexed drawing, A represents the window-sash,in the edge of which, on each side, is made a round cavity or recess, a, and from the top of the same extends a groove, I), to the upper edge of the sash. This groove should be deep enough to allow the sash-rope B to be contained therein. 0 represents my fastening, which is made of wire, bent in the center, formin g nearly acomplete ring, d. Before fully completin g the ring each end of the wire is bent under to form the jaw e, as shown, and the ends hh extend straight upward. This device or fastening is inserted in the recess a on the sash, the ring d on the inside, and the ends or arms h h are forced up into holes made in the sash, one

on each side of the groove 1). The ring (I, hearing against the upper surface of the recess 0:, acts as a spring to force the jaws 66 toward each other. On the end of the sash-rope B is made a knot, 1', large enough to enter the recess a. This knot is placed in said recess and the rope forced in between the jaws e 0, when it passes up through or in the groove 12, and is prevented from slipping out by the jaws e 6. When, however, it is desired to take out the sash entirely,

the rope can readily be released, and put in again when the sash is to be returned to its place. 7

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

The device or fastening 0, made of wire, bent so as to form the ring d,jaws e e, and arms h h, to be inserted in a recess and driven or otherwise forced up into the sash, substantially in the manner and for the purposes herein set forth.
