Description
C. C. DEFENBAUGH. COMBINATION POTATO MASHER AND BEATER. APPLICATION FILED MAR. 31, I920.
' Patented Sept. 21, 1920.
A TTORNEY COMBIN Tfon ro'r Application filed March 31, 1920. Serial Specification of Letters Patent.
.T 0 all whom it may concern):
Be it known that I, CARL a citizen of the United States, city of VVinnemucc 5 have invented new a in Combination Potato ers, of which the follo reference being had to the drawings. 7
present invention is a combination potato masher and beater.
The
The
strong and eflicient kit of a combination way beater, so assembled that primary object is preferably a and nd useful Improvements residing in the State of Nevada,
Mashers and Beatwin is a s ecification accompanying to provide a simple,
chen utensil in the potato masher and constructed of metal and the base plate may be turned perpendicularly to the handle, so that the utensil may or may be turned para use as a beater.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a pers sil with the handle to the base plate so that used as a potato masher.
Fig. plate turned horizont use as a potato beater.
Fig.
2 is a similar 3 is a detail of the the method of mounting 4; is a detail of lower view ally to the handle for be used as a potato masher, llel to the handle for pective view of the utenturned perpendicularly the utensil may be showing the base base plate showing the lock lugs thereon, which lugs are adapted to adjustably engage the handle.
Fig. spring fork at the the handle with a end, adapted to adjustably engage the lock lugs shown in 3. In carrying out the invention, I'PI'OVldG a baseplate 1, wh form and is per holes 2, through which passes in the process of ing. The base p vex on a cross section, turned downwardly, w
more efliciently engages the base plate 1 at d1 points near the periphery mount the two lock lugs triangular in shap ed for position ng upo ich is preferably circular forated with a plurality in of themashed potato mashing and beatlate 1 may be concavo-conwith the concave side hereby the base plate the potato. Upon ametrically opposite thereof, I rlgidly 3. These lugs are e, one wing 4: being adaptn the base plate while the other wing 5 projects perpendicularly therefrom, the wings toward one another.

lock lugs, for the purpose of permanently anchormg the latter to the base plate. The perpendicular wings 5 of the lock lugs carry upon their inner faces longitudinal grooves '7, disposed likewise perpendicularly to the holes 8 extend hbld the handle in upright, perpendicular plate 1, or horiposition relative to the base zontal thereto, as the'handle may be turned one way or the other. Thus,'the utensil may be adapted for either mashing potatoes, or for beating the same, as desired, by turning the base plate either perpendicular or horl- I zontal to the handle.
The concavo-convex form of the base plateenables it to more effi ciently engage the potato mass.
While I have herein described a certain specific method of constructing and assembling the elements of my invention, it is understood same may be varied in minor details, not departing from the spirit of my invention asdefined in the appended claims.
be new and patentableis:
a perforate base plate; two lock lugs permanently mounted at diametrically opposite points on the top of the base plate; a transverse, hole and connected longitudinal groove and transverse groove formed on'the inner face of each lock lug, as handle engaging means; and a spring forked handle and an outstanding finger on each prong thereof, said fingers being adapted to engage the transverse holes, and the prongs to engage the longitudinal and transverse grooves, of the lock lugs, handle to the base plate and for holding said elements in perpendicular. or horizontal relation to one another.
2. A potato masher and beater comprising a circular, erforate, concave-convex base as means 'for'connecting the.
a s r w mm holes 8 of the lock lugs, one at each r at diametrically opposite points on the top of the base plate; a transverse hole and con:
nected longitudinal groove and transverse groove formed on the inner face of each lock lug, as handle engaging means; and a spring forked handle and an outstanding finger on each prong thereof said fingers being adapted to engage the transverse holes, and the prongs to engage the longitudinal and transconnecting the handle to the base plate and for holding said elementsinperpendicular or horizontal relation to one another.
