Description

I noon LATCH AND BURGLAR ALARM;
APPLICATION FILED SEPT. 23. IBIB.
15353388. Patentdsept 211920 attain/up uNiran fsraras OF POMONA, CALIFORNIA.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 21.1920.
Application filed September 23, 1918. Serial No. 255,305..
T 0 all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, ALFRED A. F IsK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pomona, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented a new and useful Door-Latch and Burglar-Alarm, of which the following is a specification.
The subject of this invention is a door latch intended to be temporarily placed in position to prevent a door being opened.
The main object of the invention is the provision of a latch with means for attaching the same to a door jamb.
Another object of the invention is the provision of an audible signal on the latch.
The invention also contemplates generally improving the construction and enhancing the utility of door latches.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter de-' Fig. 3 is a central longitudinal section of the device, the bell removed,
Fig. 4 is aview in side elevation of the device, shown in open position'with the bell indicated in dotted lines. I
Referring to the drawing by numerals of reference In carrying out the invention there is pro- 1 vided a plate, 1, preferably formed of thin metal, and to this plate are riveted or otherwise secured the spurs, 2, and the positioning Iug, 8.
ivotally secured by a pm, 4,0r otherwlse to one end of the plate, 1, is a-tongue, 5, the free end of which is bent to form an extending stop, 6. A boss, 7, is riveted or otherwise secured to the plate, 1, and serves to enter a depression, 8, formed in the tongue, 5, when the tongue is swung to a position overlying the plate, thereby. retaining the tongue against displacement.
The stop, 6, is provided with apertures,-'9, to permit the passage therethrough of the push rod, 10,'which extends from and is operatively connected with a bell, 12, which bell is suitably securedon the tongue, 5.
In practice, the tongue, 5, is swung to open position, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1, and also shown in full lines in Fig. 4:, and the end of the plate, 1, to which the spurs are attached, is placed against the door jamb, 9, with the spurs, 2, in position to contact thejamb, andithe positioning lug, 3, in position to rest against the face of the jamb.
ALFRED A. FISK, on Poi/Lona, CALIFORNIA: AssIcrNort or oNii-HALF To A. B. mivrs,
With the'parts in this position, the door,
11, is swung to closed position, thereby contacting the plate, 1, and forcing the spurs, 2, into the wood of the jamb and anchoring the plate, 1, firmly in place. The tongue, ,5, is j then swung to closed position, @as shown in p Fig. 1, bringing the stop, 6, into position to be contacted by the door, when'the door is swung slightly opened, and restrain the door from further opening, and alsoin such p0s1-.
tion that the en'd'of the push rod, 10, will be contacted by the .doorto operate the bell, 12, and sound an alarm;
Having thusdescribed the invention, what i is claimed as new and sought by Letters Patent, is 1-- a The combination with an elongated metal plate having a b'owedend portion for insertion between a door and a j amb, and a jamb engaging spur extending from sa1dend'por .tion, of a tongue pivotally mounted upon the other end portion ofthe plate and having its free end folded and constituting an angular 1 95 stop'movable to position in t'hepathof the door,.an alarm'mountedon the tongue, a
plunger slidably mounted in and guided by the stop for actuating the alarm, oneend of the plunger being movable to position in my own, I have hereto afiixed my signature contact With the door to sound the alarm in the presence of'two Witnesses. when the door is shifted against the stop, and ALFRED A FISK cooperating means upon the plate and tongue 7 g V V I v 5 for, holding said tongue With'the stop in Witnesses:
door fastening position. r W. M. LATINE, In testimony that I claim the foregoing as j J EAN C. WOOD.

of Pomona, California, for an improvement in Door-Latches and Burglar- Alarms, was erroneously Written and printed as A. B. Davis, Whereas said name I should have been written and printed as A. B. Avis, as shown by the records of assignments in this office; and that the said Letters Patent shoiild be read with this correction therein thatthe same may conform to therecord of the case in the Patent Ofiiee. i Q
