P. r. DALMAFORTE DOOR FASTENING DEVICE 5 Filed June 19, 1925 EvenJ/I., A

UNITED STA PIERRE TBUCO'I DALMAFORTE, OF SIERRA MADRE, CALIFORNIA.
DOOR-FASTENING DEVICE.
Application mea :une 19, 1925. Serin No. 38,314.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known thatl I, PIERRE TRUco'r DAL- MAFORTE, citizen of France, residing at Sierra. Madre, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Door-Fastening Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in door fastening devices and has particular reference to an alarm for indicating the fact that an effort is being made to open the door.
Another object of this invention is to produce a device of this character which is simple in construction and therefore cheap to manufacture.
A still further object of this invention is to produce a device which may be applied to any door now in use without altering the construction of the same.
An additional obi ect of this invention is to provide means whereby the device may be made inoperative when desired.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same, y
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my device as applied to the door j amb, and
Figure 2 is a top plan view of Figure 1.
I am aware of the fact that many forms of devices have been employed for the purpose of preventing an unauthorized person entering a room most of these devices depend upon the holding of the door closed. My device however, differs in that it depends upon the giving of an audible signal thereby scaring a person away and also warning the occupants within the room. gurt-hermore it is impossible to open the oor.
In the accompanying drawings wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5 designatesthe door jamb within which is positioned a keeper plate 6. This construction is common in all doors.
The keeper plate has two ,openings therein as designated at 7 and 8. The openings 7 permit the passing of the bolt while the opening 8 permits the passing of the latch 9 carried in the door 11.
At 12 I have shown a bar having a bend 13 formed therein, which bend is adapted to enter through the opening 8 and occupy the space normally occupied by the latch 9.
Upon this bar is slidably secured ,a casing 16 held to thebar by a set screw 17. This casing carries a suitable clock-work mechanism which is adapted to actuate a bell 18 when a push button 19 is pressed.
At 21 I have shown a member pivoted as atv 22 to the bar 12. This member slidably carries a bolt 23 having` a spring 24; mounted thereon and contacting a head 26. The opposite end of this spring contacts a raised portion 2'?Y of the member 21.
The opposite end of the bolt is provided with an adjustable nut 28 which contact-s the push button 19. f
The manner of operating my device is as followsz-Assuming that the same has been attached to the door jamb as shown in Figure 1 the member 21 is swung to the dotted line position of Figure 1 after which the door is closed. The pivoted member has then swung to the full line position shown in Figures 1 and 2, which brings the head 26 into contact with the door 11, the result being that any movement of the door in a. direction to open will push upon the rod 23, push button 19 and cause the bell 18 to be rung. n i
By manipulating` the screw 17 into the position upon the device the same may be, therefore, readily adjusted.
It is to be understood that-.the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same, and that various changes in the shape, size and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claim.
Having thus 'described my invention, I claim f In a device of the character described, a
rod adapted to have one end bent so as to engage the keeper plate of a door jamb, a
pivoted member secured to said rod, a sliding member positioned 1n said pivoted member, an audible signal secured to said rod,
a push button controlling said audible signal, said rod being capable of operating said push button, and a spring normally adapted to retain said sliding member out of contact with said push button.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
PIERRE TRUCOT DALMAFORTE.
