BURGLAR ALARM.

a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Memphis, in the county of Shelby and State of Tennessee, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Burglar Alarms, of which the tollowing is a specification.
This invention relates to aburglar alarm.
The object of the invention is to provide a device which may be mounted on any window or door of building and adapted to cause an explosion when an intruder attempts to open the door or window.
It is also an object of the invention that the device be simple in construction and positive in operation.
It is a further object of the invention that the device is adapted to he quickly applied to a window or door.
(lther objects and objects relating to details of construction, combination and arrangement of parts will hereinafter appear in the detailed description to tollow.
The invention is illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a detail elevation illustrating the use of the present invention when associated with a door.

The extensions 11 and 12 are also provided with rogisteriup openings which are adapted to receive a pin 22 indi ated in, dotted lines in Figure 2. Upon this pin there is iournaled or pivoted a trip. lever 23, said lever having; an enlarged end portion 24 through. which the pin 22 extends and having]; it forward portion 25 bent at substan tially right angles to its rear portion as at 26. so that the upper edge ot the forward port-ion 25 when the trip lever is in the po sition shown in Figure 2 may engage beneath the lower end of the stem 18 and hold the same in its raised position, as shown in Figure 3 against the tension of the spring 21; also there is inserted between the enlarged or pivoted end 24 of the trip lever and the extension 12 a tubular member as indicated at 26', the pin 22 passing therethrougrh as shown in dotted lines. The base 10 is formed with su table openings at each of its ends adapted to receive the wood screws as indicated 27, by which the base may be secured to a window casing or door casing with which it is intended to associate the device.
Referring to Figure 1, 27 indicates a door and 28 the door casing. In this instance the device is secured to the casing 28 by means pass through the door and before entirely closing extend his hand between the door and casing and move the extension member 54; to its horizontal position as shown in Figures a and Also before leaving the room a plug may be inserted in the key hole as indicated at 60, said plug being tapered toward its one end and only adapted to be removed when pushed inwardly, or in other words, toward the extension member 54. The per son may now close the door and the device is set. In case anyone would attempt to unlock the door by the use of the skeleton key, the plug 60 would be pushed against the end of the extension member 54; and thus move the trip lever 41 inwardly sufficient for releasing the stem 36 and firing the cartridge within the cartridge barrel d5. When the person who had set the lock returns he may give the door knob a quick turn and thus throw the extension member 5a to its position indicated in dotted lines in Figure 5, and then open the door for entering the room.
Referring to Figure 7 there is shown a base plate 61 from one side of which there extends a substantially triangular shaped member 62. The member 62 is preferably made of wire as shown, and from the other face of the base member 61 there extends a pair of points 63, one near each end thereof as shown. Also the base plate 61 is formed with a pair of openings 64, one near each end thereof. The purpose of the member just described is for use when the alarm device is associated with a window, the device may be positioned as in Figure 1 upon the casing of a window and then the member shown in Figure 7 positioned upon the window sash so that when the sash is raised the triangular portion of the triangular member 62 will engage with the trip lever 41 and move the same outwardly for releasing the pin 86. The downward stroke of the stem 36 will of course fire the cartridge and cause an explosion as has been previously described.

1. A burglar alarm of the character described, comprising in combination, a door, a cartridge firing mechanism, means for supporting'said mechanism to the casing of said door, and means extending between said firing mechanism and the key-hole of the doorwhereby with the attempted unlocking of the door with a key said firing mechanism will be actuated.
2. A burglar alarm of the character described, comprising in combination, a door, a cartridge firing mechanism, means for securing said mechanism to the casing of said door adjacent the free end of the door, and means between the keyhole of the door and firing mechanism whereby upon the attempted unlocking of the door with a key said firing mechanism will be actuated for firing the cartridge.
3. A burglar alarm of the character described, comprising in combination, a door, a cartridge firing mechanism, means for supporting said cartridge firing mechanism to the casing of said door adjacent the free end of the door, means between the keyhole of the door and firing mehanism whereby upon the attempted unlocking o-f the door with a key said firing mechanism will be actuated for firing a cartridge, and means whereby the door may be opened from the exterior without actuating said cartridge firing mechanism.

A burglar alarm of the character described, comprising in combination, a door, a cartridge firing mechanism, means for supporting said firing mechanism to the ca sing of said door adjacent the free end of the door, a trip lever associated with said firing mechanism adapted to release the same when moved in a predetermined direction, and means extending between said trip lever and keyhole of the door whereby upon the attempted opening of said door with a key, said trip lever will be moved for releasing said firing mechanism.
5. A burglar alarm of the character described, comprising in combination, a door, a cartridge firing mechanism, means for supporting said cartridge firing mechanism upon the casing of said door adjacent the free end of the door, a trip lever associated with said firing mechanism adapted to release the same when moved in a predeter-- mined direction, a hinged extension for said trip lever adapted to have its outer end disposed when extended over the keyhole of the door, and means in said keyhole whereby on the attempted unlocking of the door with a key the trip lever will be moved for releasing the firing mechanism.
6. A burglar alarm of the character de scribed, comprising in combination, a door, a cartridge firing mechanism, means for supporting said cartridge firing mechanism upon the casing of said door adjacent the free end of the door, a trip lever associated with said firing mechanism adapted to release the same when moved in a predetermined direction, a hinged extension for said trip lever adapted to have its outer end disposed when extended over the keyhole of the door, means in said keyhole whereby upon the attempted unlocking of the door with a key the trip lever will be moved for releasing the firing mechanism,and means carried by the handle of the door whereby with the turning movement thereof the hinged portion of the trip lever may be drawn upwardly and permit the opening of said door without moving said trip lever.
7. In a device of the character described, a plate, a pair of spaced lugs extending from the one face of said plate and arranged in parallel relation With each other, means carried by one of said lugs adapted to support a eartridge a spring pressed stem carried by the other lug and in alignment With the cartridge supporting means a-firing pin carried by said stem, and an elongated trigger bar having its one end termlnating 1n a curved portion, said end being pivoted between the lugs at a point adjacent one longitudinal edge of the plate whereby When the trigger 10 bar is swung inwardly the curved portlon thereof may be brought to engage beneath the associated end of the stem and the remainder portion thereof extend at substantially right angles to the plate.
