FIRE-KINDLER.
Application filed April '12,
' which the following is a specification.
. My invention relates to new and useful improvements in fire kindlers and morefparticularly to the type embodying a plurality of burners, which burners may be associated with the fire box in any suitable'manner to cause coals or other like material to take fire, thereby eliminating the necessity of kindling a fire by means of-paper, wood and oil. Q
An important object of my invention residesin the provision of a device having a plurality of spaced burners for insertion betweenthe spaced grate bars. s Another object of my invention resides in the provision of a device embodying means for adjusting the air space of'the burner, and which means may be employed to adjust the burner in relation to th'e feed p pe.
A further object of my invention resides in the provision of a device which'is portable and may be associated with the grate at will, or may be detachably retained in the stove. V
A still further object of my invention is to provide a device of the above specified character embodying parts which may be detached from their co-acting parts to facilitate renewal of any breakage occurring therein or to facilitate compact storage for a shipping of the device. 7 Other objects and advantages of the 1nvention will be apparent during the course of the following description.
The invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangements of several parts, to be hereinafter fully descr bed, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and specifically pointed out in the appended claims. 7
In the drawings, forming a part of the description, and wherein like numeral are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the dev1ce, being shown in operative position in connection with grate bars, and parts of the Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Se t. 21 1920 1919. Serial No. 239,753.
device being broken away to more clearly show its construction. 7
Fig. 2 is a top plan of the device, and
Fig. 3 is a vertical section of the device taken on the line 3- -3 of Fig. 1.
In the drawings, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral; 1 indicates a: plurality of grate bars, which are spaced apart in the usual manner.
My invention consists of a feed pipe designated by the numeral 2, and this feed pipe is closed at its outer end as indicated by the numeral 3, while the inner endof this pipe is provided with a detachable nipple 4. flexible gas pipe, not shown, can be applied to this nipple in case the device is desired to be used as a portable kindler, or an ordinary supply pipe may be threaded on to the nipple or inner end of the feed pipe 2 in case the pipe is desired to be detachably associated with a stove;
The relative upper portion of the feed pipe 2 is provided with a plurality of spaced 4 threaded openings 5, adapted to receive the lower threaded portion of conduits 6, said conduits extending upwardly of the feed pipe 2. The upper ends of these conduits 6 are screw threaded as at 7 for a purpose to hereinafterappear and the upper outlet ends of these conduits are restricted as at 8. Only the upper portion of the end conduits 6 are screw threaded as set forth above, while the 7 lower bar 12 which is associated with the conduits is provided with a plurality of openings 14 through which the upper portion of the conduits extend so that the frame 11 may be adj ustably mounted upon the conduits. In order to adjustably support this frame upon the upper ends of the conduits,
a pair of nuts 15 are provided for each end conduit 6,.so that one nut of each pair may engage the upper face of the lower bar 12' and the upper threaded portion of the end conduit 6, while the other nut of each pair may engage the lower face of the lower bar burners 10, whereby the burners may be carried directly over the outlet ends of the-conduits.
I have foundthat natural or artificialgas' constitutes very efficient fuel for my invention, but I do not care to restrict myself to the kind of fuel used in connection with the kindler.
To use the invention, it is inserted as a whole into the stove so that the burners 10 project up between the grate bars 1. Of course, the burners may be lighted before the device is inserted into a stove, by permitting the gas to enter the feed pipe 3, from where it will travel through the conduits 6 and 9 up through the burners 10 and through the outlet openings where the gas is ignited in any suitable manner. By providing the frame 11 so as to space the burners from conduits, an air space is provided through which the gas must travel and combine with the air to produce a highly combustible mixture. By adjusting the nuts 15 the frame 11 can be made to move downwardly or upwardly upon the conduits and thereby adjust the air space between the outlet end of the conduits and the lower ends of the burners 10; As screw connections are employed for connecting the various parts of the invention as set forth above, all of theparts of the invention may be detached'for repair or to facilitate compact packing or shipping of the device.
The foregoing description andthe drawings have reference to what may be consid ered the preferred, or the approved form of my invention. It is to be understood that I may make such changes in the construction and arrangement and combination of parts, materials, dimensions, etc., as may prove expedient or fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus fully described 'my inventiony-What, I claim as new and desire to sei cure by Letters Patent is 71. A fire kindler comprising a feed pipe, feed conduits carried thereby, a frame including a pair of spaced bars, said frame being mounted upon said conduits by one of its bars, and a burner associated with each conduit and supported bythe other bar of said frame so that the burners are spaced from the conduits.
2. A fire kindler comprising a feed pipe,
feed conduits carried thereby, the upper ends of some of said conduits being screw threaded, a frame including a pair of spaced bars onebar having a plurality of openings nuts for engagement with the threaded ends ofsaidconduits and engaging opposite sides of the bar having the openings therein to adjustably support the frame upon said conduits, and a burner for each conduit carried by the other bar of the frame,
3. A fire'kindler-comprising a feed pipe having a plurality of conduits, a frame adto surround the upper ends of said conduits,
justably mounted on said conduits, said
