UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE;
CHARLES Ii. MITCHEL, OF ROCHESTER, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOIt TO BASTIAN BROS. COMPANY, OF ROCHESTER, NEW YORK, A CORPORATION.
V PINWHEEL.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 14, 1920.
Applicationfiled September 24, 1919. Serial No. 326,022.
To all whom it may concern:
'Be it known that 1, CHARLES F. MITGHEL, a citizen of the United States, and'resident of Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented certain.
Z.- completed pin wheel and the blanks being secured together in a simple and inexpensive manner which maintains the relative positions of the two blanks in the completed wheel.
To this and other ends, the invention consists of certain parts and combinations of parts, all of which will be hereinafter de scribed, the no vel features being pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a plan view of the uppermost blank;
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the under blank;
Fig. 3 is a face view of the completed pin wheel;
Fig. l is a rear view of the completed pin wheel;
Fig. 5 is an enlarged fragmentary view showing the connection between the two blanks from the outer face of the uppermost blank; and
Fig. 6 is an enlarged section on the line 6-6, Fig.
Referring more particularly to the drawings 1 indicates a rectangular blank forming the uppermost blank of the pin wheel. This blank has radially arranged slits 2 intersecting the corners of the blank. 3 indicates the under blank which is formed with slits 4: intersecting the corners of the blank and arranged substantially tangential to a circle concentric with the axis 5 of the blank 3. The axis 6 of the blank 1 is arranged in line with the axis 3 of the blank 2 and the blade forming portions 7 and 8 of the blanks turnmg 1 and 3 are then rolled and secured together at a common point which is in line with the axes 5 and 6 of the blanks 1 and 3. This rolling is effected in such a manner that the blade forming portions of one blank alternate with the blade forming portions of the other blank and the edges of the blanks abutat 10 so as to prevent relative turning in one direction. In order to prevent turning in the opposite direction the under blank 3 is provided with a slot or opening 11 while the upper or outer blank 1 is provided with a tongue 12. This tongue 12 is passed through the opening 11 and prevents the relative turning of the blanks in the opposite direction. A pin or other fastening device is introduced through the openings in the ends of the blades and through the openings at the centers of the blanks and serves as a bearing on which the pin wheel turns. An eyelet 18 may connect the centers while an eyelet 14 may connect the ends of the blades of the two blanks. The blanks may be made of paper, celluloid, or like material in sheet form.
A pin wheel made in accordance with this invention provides-a construction made of two blanks each having blade forming portions, the blade forming portions of one blank being arranged alternately with the blade forming portions of'the other blank and the blanks being secured together in a simple and inexpensive manner so that relative movement between the blanks is prevented in both directions. I
Vhat I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A pin wheel formed of two differently slitted blanks each having blade forming portions rolled to provide blades, the blades of one blank alternating with the blades of the other blank and cooperating with each other to prevent relative turning of the blanks in one direction, one of said blanks having an opening and the other having a tongue extending of the blanks in the opposite direction.
