Description

I. H. WEINBERG AND C. F. BISBING.

UMBRELLAAND PARASOL. APPLICATION FLED MAH. 5, 1920.

amarrar Y ISAAC H. WEINBERG AND CHARLES?. BISBING, OF YORK, N. Y.

UMBRELLA A'ND PARASOL.

Specicatonrof Letters Patent.

Patented Sept. f?, 1920.

Application filed March 5, 1920.V Serial No. 363,606.

To all whom t may concern Be it known that we, lsAAo H. VVEINBERG and CHARLES F. Bi'snrNe, both citizens of the "United States, and residents oi the city of New York, borough or" Manhattan, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Umbrella and Parasol, or which the following` is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to improvements in umbrellas and parasols, an object of the invention being to provide a convenient attaohment which operates to hold the ribs of the umbrella or parasol close Vto the handle and which also provides a convenient means .tor supporting the umbrella or parasol on the wrist or arm of the user.

A further object is to provide an attachment of the character stated, which can be conveniently located on any ordinary para? sol or umbrella and which not only adds to the convenience of carrying the umbrella, but also is ornamental and attractive in appearance.

`With these and other objects in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, and combinations and arrangements of parts as Vwill be more'fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claimsl The accompanying drawing is a view in elevation illustrating in full lines one position of our improved attachment and in dotted lines another position oi" the same.

l represents the handle and 2 the cover of an umbrella or parasol, the latter having the ordinary ribs 3 which when the umbrella or parasol is closed, are located around the lower end of the handle or adjacent thereto,

4 represents an ornamental band which may be of metal or any other suitable material and which is secured around the handle l and provided with an eye 5 supporting a link 6. An ornamental cord 7 is secured t0 the link 6 and is connected by means of a link 8 with a ring 9, said ring having an eye 10 receiving the link 8. The cord may be ornamented by having a tassel l1 at its free end and is preferably of a color conforming to the color of the umbrella cover, although,

of course, this is purely a matter of taste and may be varied to suit the trade;

The ring 9 is of a diameter to snugly lit around the cover 2 adjacent the ends of the ribs 3 and hold the cover around the handle preventing fthe ribs from flying out and making the carrying of the umbrella a convenient one. v

It will be noted that the cord 7 is of a suficient length between the band 4 and the ring 9 to provide a loop to receive the arm of the user so that the umbrella or parasol can be conveniently carried on the arm. Wien it is desired to raise the umbrella, the ring 9 is moved upwardly onto the handle l, and it will be noted that the `handle 1 is tapering in form; that is, it decreases in diameter toward its lower end so that when the ring 9 is forced up onto the handle l, it will frictionally bind on the handle and hold the parts in the position illustrated in within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.

We claim:

l. The combination with an umbrella or parasol having a handle thereon, of a ring movable longitudinally of the handle and adapted to be supported on the handle or around the ribs of the umbrella or parasol, a flexible device secured at one end to the handle and at its other end to said ring, said flexible device of a suicient length between its point of connection with the handle and the ring whereby an arm receiving loop is provided in either position of the ring, and said handle tapering in form and adapted to support the ring thereon by a frictional engagement therewith.

2. The combination with an umbrella or parasoll having a handle thereon, of a ring whereby an arm receiving loop is provided in eitherl position of the ring,y said handle 10 tapering in form and adapted to Support the ring thereon by a friotional engagement therewith. Y

ISAAC H. VVEINBERG. CHARLES F. BISBING.
