Description

H. FRANK.
Battle Labels.
Patemedlan. 21,1873.
AM PHora-L m-m sn/lpmc ca Mx (osaafmf's moc-ess) UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EIMAN FRANK, 0F PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN BOTTLE-LABELS.
Specication forming part of Leiters Patent No. 135,034, (lated January 21, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HIMAN FRANK, of Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bottle-Labels; and I do* hereby declare the following to be a full, clear,
en in lthe inner face of a label-plate. Such de-V pressions are filled with any suitable plast-ic material-suchas plaster of Paris-and are surrounded with a ditlerently-colored opaque material, and the label is then placed in its seat and secured by any suitable adhesive material.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my improvement, I will proceed to describe its construction and manner of use.
B represents a bottle or jar, made in any lknown way and of any desired form. A labelseat is made by means of the raised beads b,
or in `any other suitable way. D is a labelplate, of suitable form for tillin g the labelseat,
made ot' glass or other suitable transparent material. In making it the letters or other characters which are designed to designate the contents of thebott-le are sunken or depressed in its inner face, as at a. These depressions are lled with plaster of Paris or other suitable plastic material or composition. The space a immediately around these letters or characters is covered with any opaque composition-such as a dii'erently-colored paintor it may be applied directly to the label-seat. Other ornamentation may be added at pleasure. .The /labeLplate is then iixed in its seat by the use of any suitable adhesive material.
The same construction may be also applied to labels for drawers, cases, and kindred uses.
By this means I secure at a small expense a neat and durable label.
W'hat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A bottle or jar and label, the latter consisting of a transparent plate with depressed letters or characters in its inner face, such depressions being iilled with plaster of Paris or equivalent material and surrounded by a non- .transparent and differently-colored composition, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I, the said HIMAN FRANK, have hereunto set my hand.
HIMAN FRANK.
