DRINKING CUP HOLDER FOR WATER BOTTLES. APPLICATION FILED SEPT. 9. 1919.

lnninnme eur nornna non WATER-BOTTLES.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patgntgd Aug, 10 19 20,
Application filed September 9, 1919. serial no. 322,619,.
To all whom it may concern: 7
Be it known that I, Crmnnns ROSENTHAL, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Man hattan, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Drinking-Cup Holder for VVater- Bottles, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements in drinking cup holders for water bottles, and more particularly to a device adapted to clamp upon the inverted upper end of a water bottle when the latter is in position in a water cooler, an object of the invention being to provide a device of the character stated, which will effectually support a carton. or box containing a column of drinking cups in convenient position for use.
A further object is to provide a device of the character stated, which can be folded or collapsed so as to allow a large number of the devices to be conveniently packed for shipment.
A further object is to provide a device of the character stated, which will be extremely cheap to manufacture, which will be strong and durable in use, and which will most efficiently perform the functions for which it is intended.
WVith these and other objects in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, and combinations and arrangements of parts, as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings-- Figure 1 is a view in elevation illustrating my improvements in operative position on a water bottle;
Fig. 2 is a top plan view with the box or carton removed;
Fig. 3 is a view in side elevation of the device removed from the bottle and the members folded together; a
Fig. l is an edge view of Fig. 3;
Fig. 5 is a plan view of Figs. 3 and e; and
Fig. 6 is an enlarged fragmentary view in section on the line 6-6 of Fig. 8.
My improved device comprises four spring wire members 1, each member having a straight vertical intermediate portion 2 confined within a coupling sleeve 3. This coupling sleeve 3 permits a free turning movement of the members therein, secures all of the members together and provides a support or standardto strengthen thedevice. The members 1 above the sleeve 3 are bent outwardly and disposed horizontally, as shown at 4, are then bent upwardly and disposed vertically, as shown at 5, and at their upper ends are bent forming horizontalriglit angle hooks 6. i
The members 1 below bent outwardly forming horizontal portions 7 adapted to rest on top of an inverted bottle 9 and the ends of the wires are bent downwardly and inwardly forming hooks 8 to grip the sides of the bottle.
As above stated, this device is adapted for use on inverted bottles while the latter are in position on water coolers and the device can be readily inserted on the bottle by springing the hooked ends 6 over the same as illustrated.
10 represents a box or carton containing a column of drinking cups 11 and this box is supported on the horizontal portions 4: of the members and the corners of the box are confined by the hook 6 so that the box is securely held in an upright position in convenient location for the cups.
One of the most important features of my invention is the independent members con nected by the coupling sleeve 3 which permits the members to move relative to each other when not in operative position. Hence, the members can be folded against each other, as shown in Figs. 8, 4:, 5 and 6, and will lie comparativelyfiat and permit a large number of the devices to be packed in a relatively small space.
Various slight changes may be made in the general form and arrangement of parts described without departing from the invention, and hence I do not limit myself to the precise details set forth but consider myself at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A device of the character stated, comprising a plurality of spring wire members, bottle engaging hooks formed on the lower ends of said members, the upper ends of said members bent forming a carton support, and a coupling device connecting the interme diate portions of the members holding them together and permitting independent movement of the members. W p
2. A device of the character stated, comthe coupling 3 are prising a plurality of spring Wire members, bottle engaging hooks formed on the lower ends of said members, the upper ends of said members bent forminga carton support, a coupling device connecting the intermediate portions of the members holding them together and permitting independent movement or the members sald coupling device comprlsing a vertlcally positioned sleeve,
and said members having vertical intermediate oortions co nfined in the sleeve. I
device of the character stated, comprising a plurality of spring Wire members, all of said members having straight vertical intermediate portions, a vertically disposed coupling sleeve confining the said intermediate portions of the members, bottle engaginghooks on the lower ends of the members, andthe upper ends of said'members bent forming a carton support.
4; A device of the character'stated, comprising a plurality of spring Wire members,
right angle hooks at their upper ends adapted toengage the corners of the box supported on the said horizontal portions.
oH-ARLEs ROSENTHAL.
