Description

G. F. EDMONDS.
MOISTURE COLLECTOR.
APPLICATION FILED MAR. a. 1920.
1,3413742' v Patented July 13, 1920.
axiz wms INVENTOR ATTORNEY UNITED s1 is PATNT OFFIQE.
GEORGE E. EDMONDS, OF LEAVENWORTH, KANSAS.
MOISTURE-COLLECTOR.
Application filed March 8,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE F. EnMoNDs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Leavenworth, in the county of Leavenworth and State of Kansas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Moisture-Collectors, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a device for catching water caused by the melting of ice on the glass of the door, the object of the invention being to prevent water running off on to the floor where it is likely to freeze, making it dangerous to walk upon and also preventing the door from being opened.
In carrying out my invention I provide a tray for collecting the water and directing it to a cup, said tray having a rubber strip thereon for engaging the glass.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a view showing the invention in use upon a door.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the device.
Fig. 3 is a central longitudinal sectional view through Fig. 1. p
In these views 1 indicates the door and 2 the glass panel therein. My improved device consists of a metal tray 3 having its ends bent upwardly as at 4 and provided with holes for receiving the screws to secure the device to the door. The inner edge of the tray is bent upwardly and this edge is received by a triangle-shaped strip 5 of rubber 01' the like, the strip being slotted, as at 6, to receive this edge. The front of the tray has its edges converging to the center and these edges are turned upwardly, as at 7. The bottom of the tray slopes downwardly from each side toward the center. At the center the outer part of the tray is cut-away to provide an opening 8 and a part of the metal is bent downwardly Specification of Letters Patent.

and pass through the opening 8 into the cup. Before the cup becomes filled it may be removed and emptied and replaced. In this way the water from the melted ice on the glass panel will be prevented from reaching the floor where it is liable to freeze and prevent the door from being opened.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is 1. A device of the class described comprising a tray having tabs adapted to be secured to the door, the inner edge of said tray being straight and bent upwardly at an angle, a rubber strip of triangular-shape having a slot inits inclined face for receiving said inclined edge, said tray having an opening in its center for theoutlet of water and a cup removably connected with the tray and suspended under said opening.
2. A deviceof the class described comprising a tray formed of metal and having a tab at each end for connecting it with the door, a rubber strip connected with the inner edge of the tray and engagingthe glass plate in the door, said tray having its bottom sloping downwardly from its ends toward the center, the outer edges of the tray being curved upwardly, the central part of said curved edge being cut-away to form an opening and the metal from the opening being bent downwardly to form a hooked tongue and a cup suspended from said tray under the opening.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
GEORGE F. EDMONDS.
