which the `following is aspecification. i
. lfheprimary object of the` invention is the provision ofsa metallic supportingtie for railway rails that is exceedingly simple in construction, lwell braced and possessesgreat thereon in track formation.
A further object of the invention is the f provision of a metallic railway tie easily and inexpensively manufactured from l-beams of suitable proportion, bracing means being provided forming chair portions thereon for ready attachment of the rails in transverse position. l
A still further object of the inventionis to provide ametallic tie requiring only the provision of a plurality of identical braces in its construction, the railway rails being readily mounted and secured thereon.
TWith these general objects in view, the invention consists of the novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described in connection with the accompanying drawingand in which like reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views.

My invention boardly consists lof a metal l'bean`1` having aweb 10 and top and base flanges 11 and 12 substantially double the width of the height of said web whereby `railway rails such as 13 may be seated for support upon the top flange 11 accurately spaced apart according to the gage of the road. A plurality of braces or brackets 14 are placed in pairs at opposite sides of the web 10 spaced from the 4opposite ends of the i a l-beam forming chair portions of the `tie bracing the I-bealn at these points where the `rails 13 are positioned when the tie 1s 1n use.

Upwardly and outwardly extending terminal portions 18 of the brackets ll of ogee curvature with substantially horizontal end portions19 contactthe lower face of the top fiange` `1l of; the -beam for strengthening strength, the rails "ibeing readily secured and bracing the same. rlfjhe upperand lower end faces 20 and 21 of the braces 14 are flush with the outer edges of the top flange 11 and base flange 12 of the I-beam when the device is assembled and a strong tie is provided upon which the rails 13 are readily secured `in planes above and between the sets or pairs of braces 14C positioned as heretofore described.`
Angular securing plates 22 adapted for seating transversely uppn the top flange 11 of the tie overlying the base flanges of the rails 13 are secured in position by hold-fast devices such as stub bolts 23 extending through perforations 24 in the plates 22, similar perforations 25 in the top flange 11 of the tie and threaded into perforations 26 of the bracket end portions 19. A strong and economical tieis provided formed solely of an I-beam braced and strengthened by the brackets lll at chair or supporting portions adjacent the opposite ends of the beam for mounting railway rails 13 thereon in track formation. The curved portions 18 of the brackets 14 not only strengthen the tie, but afford slight resiliency for the chair portions thereof, it being understood that the `tie is mounted upon or embedded in the roadbed in pairs to the web in spaced relations inwardly of one end thereof forming a chair portion with the end portions of the braces flatly contacting `the opposite inner faces of said top and base flanges, the up )er end portions of the braces having threa ed perforations and the top flange of thev bea1n having perforations in alinement therewith adapted for vthe reception of holdfast devices and rail Y engagingv plates transversely of the top flange of the beam provided with perforations in alinement with said lperforations ofthe beam' and stub bolts ladapted to be ser curedv through said alinining perforations when a rail is positioned for use beneath said plates.
