No. 134,325. Patented Dec 24,1872.
AM. PHUTD-LITHDERAPHIC CQ/VYJbSBUfiNE'S PROCESS! ADDISON A. STUART, OF CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA.
IMPROVEMENT IN KEYS FQR LOCKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 341,325, dated December 24, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ADDISON A. STUART, of Cedar Rapids, Linn county, and State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Door-Keys and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this specification. V
The aforesaid key consists of four parts so constructed and arranged that the bit is thrown out by an inward pressure on the handle or bow of the key, and when the bolt of the lock is properly constructed it will not be necessary to turn the key at all to unlock the door, the bolt being forced back simply by an inward pressure on the keybow.
Description of Drawing.
Fig. 2
used in any lock arranged with reference to the peculiar form of the same.
A is the sheath which incases the post or stem of the key. B is the stem which slides freely within the sheath, and to which the bow or handle is attached. 0 O, are two curved pieces secured together by a pin or rivet, d. A rivet, e, secures the curved piece 0 to the post or stem, while the rivet e fastens the piece a to the sheath. The two pieces 0 and 0 form the movable bit, which is thrown out and in as the handle of the key is pushed from or drawn toward the person holding or using the key.
0 lm' m.
What I claim as my invention, and wish to secure by Letters Patent, is
The sheath A combined with the stem 13, and the bit composed of the pieces 0 and c hinged together, all arranged as described, and for the purpose set forth.
ADDISON A. STUART.
