MACIEJ ZABOY, OF ALLENTOWN, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO WOJ'CIECH DANIEL, OF ALLENTOWN, PENNSYLVANIA.
COMBINATION FOUNTAIN -BRUSI-I.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J une 8, 1920.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that l, Macina ZABOY, a citizen of Poland, residing at Allentown, in the county of Lehigh and State of lenn- Sylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Fountain- Brushes, of which the following is a specilication.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a brush having a removable fluid supply and convertible for use as a mop or polisher whenever desired.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a fluid supplying attachment for brushes adapted for regulation during the operation of the brush, a mop member being also provided for employment with the brush.
A still further object of the invention is Vthe provision of a device serviceable either as a fountain brush, a combined brush and mop, or an ordinary scrubbing brush, the structure being readily disassembled when desired and being simple in construction rendering its manufacture inexpensive.
Some of the objects of the invention having been set forth, the invention will be now more fully described reference being had to the accompanying drawings and in which like reference numerals designate eorresponding parts throughout the several views.
In the drawings,
Figure l is an end elevation of the invention with parts broken away,
Fig. 2 is a top plan view thereof,
F ig. 3 is a front elevation of the same,
Fig. 4 is a view similar to Fig. 3, with the mop removed and parts shown in longitudinal vertical section,
Fig. 5 is a top plan view thereof with the fluid reservoir removed,
Fig. 6 is a top plan view of the brush,
Fig. 7 is a side elevation of the reservoir detached,
Fig. 8 is an enlarged transverse sectional view illustrating the valve mechanism for the reservoir,
Fig. 9 is a sectional view thereof taken upon line IX-IX of Fig. 8,
Fig. 10 is a perspective view of the mounting casing for the reservoir with its handle member broken away, and
Fig. 11 is a perspective view of the mopengaging member.
lily invention broadly consists of a scrubbing brush l() having a casing 11 mounted thereon for supporting a reservoir 12, the brush being operated by a handle 1L5 secured to said casing and suitable valve means being provided for controlling the iluid contents of the reservoir l2 applied to the brush 10.
The brush 10 has the usual bristles 14 proj ecting from the' lower side of the back member 15 of the brush while perforations 1G through the back 15 permit fluid from the reservoir 12 to freely flow through the brush upon the bristles when admitted under suitable control into the casing 11. The casing 1l has an open bottom as illustrated in Fig. 8 of the drawings for seating upon the brush back 15 surrounding the perforations 16 thereof while the handle 12, projects upwardly at an angle centrally olA one side of the casing 11.
The reservoir 12 preferably of cylindrical :form is removably seated upon arcuate transverse rods 17 struck-up from the top of the casing 1l` while a central outlet pipe 18 in the bottom of the spout projects into the casing 11 through a central opening 159 in the top thereof and is normally closed by a spring-pressed valve 2() within the casing 11. V-shaped springs 21 depend from the opposite ends of the reservoir 12 for resilient engagement in T-shaped slots 22 adjacent the opposite ends of the top of the casing 11, whereby the reservoir is detachably mounted in its operative position upon the said casing.
The valve 20 is carried by an arm 23 hinged as at 24 within the casing 11 at the side thereof to which the handle 13 is secured, springs 25 normally engaging the arm 23 for maintaining the valve 20 elevated and in its closed position seated upon the open end of the pipe 18 when the reservoir 12 is assembled upon the casing 11.- A Wire 26 has its lower end attached to a loop 27 upon the arm 23 inwardlyT of the hinge 24 adapted to be pulled for opening the valve 20 by a rod 28 attached to the upper end of the wire 26 and extending to any suitable point upon the lower side of the handle 13. A filling spout 29 in the top of the reservoir 12 is normally closed by a cap 30.
A mop-holder is provided for the brush 10 consisting of a strip 31 mounted forwardly of the casing 1l upon rods 3Q transversely slidable through said casing' and having loops 33 rearwardly thereof. Uperating means gt'or the rods 32 consists o' a substantially U-shaped frame B4 having opposite loops hinged in the loops 33 with nu intermediate ronnerting portion 3V of the frame 34 having a flexible mop termed ol' suitable material such :is fabril folded over the connecting portion 3G for passing beneath the bristles 14 and between the strip B1 and the Casingr 11.
Opposite tree ends 38 of the frame 34 are pivoted to ears intermediate the ends of a levelI plate of arcuate form adapted to liatly engage the handle 13 when the mop is ready for use. A slidingr collar 41 upon the hand le 13 is resiliently pressed upwardly by means oi' helical spring)1 421 npontlie handie while feet members 43 at' the hottom of the plate v4() are pivoted as at 44 to the collar 41.
The complete `operation of the invention will be fully understood by this detailed description thereof. the reservoir 12 containing suitable {luid beingr mounted upright on the casingV l1 over the brush 1l) with the spring-pressed valve 20 normally Closing the outlet pipe 18 thereof. Nhen brushing or scrublgring,y the handle 13 is grasped for directing the movements of the brush 10 and upon pulling the rod Q8, any desired amount of the iuid 45 is delivered through the pipe 18 because on the opening of the valve 20, such fluid freely passing?r into the easing 11 and throui the perforations 1G to the bristles 14. y forcing the upper ends 46 of the springs 21 inwardly, rthe latter are released from the openings 22 and the reservoir 1Q removed Jfrom the easing7 permitting the employment of the brush 10 without the reservoir, The mop is released by swinging the lever plate 40 $37 forwardly upon its pivots 44 and at which times liesspr'rng-4tnexpands while move n't o'kthe plate 40 shifts the frame 34 forwardly ias Well astlie rods ,41,9151 the grip 31, separatingthe` said strip from the forward side of the casing 11, permitting the adiustment oi' the forward end of the mop 34 between said strip and casing. Upon rearwardly swinging theplate 40, the strip 31 holds the mop between the strip and the casing 11,*the spring 42 normally holding the plate 4U in Contact with the handle 13 in a manner that will be readily apparent. Mop 3T may be employed or not as desired but is serviceable in polishing loors as well as in the usual Inopping operation and is adapted to be stretched when in position beneaththe bristles 14 ivy the reservoir of the trame 34 and the dition oi' the spring 42 with the forward end of the mop secured by the strip 31.
Having thus described my invention what l claim as new and desire to secure byLet- 'ters Patent is 1. `device of the elass described comprising a brush, a casing carried by the brush back andhaving akeeper opening formed adjacent each end, a tankl having spring fingers detaehably received in said openings and controlling means for supplyingjI the water in thetank to said brush.
if, A device ot' the class described oomprismer a brush, a easing carried'by the brush baek and having a keeper opening formed adjacent each end, struck-up portions formed in said casing, a tank supported on said struck-up portions, spring lingers carried by said tank for reception in the keeper openings, and means for controllinkgT the supply of water from the tank to said brush.-
In testimony whereof I alix my signature.
