SCRUBB ING BRUSH Filed sept. 2, v1931 v mmv v@ ff INVENTOR.

ment for fresh water in direct communication with the brush bristles, and to provide conduit and valve control means whereby the soap solution is supplied directly to the brush bristles. Further objects of the invention are to provide means whereby the brush may be used with or without a running supply of fresh water, positive valve control means for the soap solution, electric massage means, and means whereby the running water is supplied evenly and with reduced force to the lower or water compartment.
W'ith the above and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of the noval construction, adaptation, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed. These objects are accomplished by devices illustrated in the accompanying drawing; wherein Figure 1 is a view in perspective of the assembled brush;
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the bristle retaining member;
Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the partition plate;
Fig. 4- is a bottom plan view of the cover member;
Fig. 5 is a View in longitudinal vertical section of the brush;
Fig. 6 is a view in transverse vertical section taken on a broken line 6-6 of Fig. 5; and
Fig. 7 is a fragmentary view in vertical section through an end portion of the brush handle.
Referring to the drawing throughout which like reference numerals designate like parts, the brush as a whole comprises three major parts; namely a cover member 5, a partition plate 6, and a bristle retaining member 7. Said cover and bristle retaining members are preferably made of hard rubber or the like and are provided with transverse partitions 8 and 9 respectively which register with each other, and all three of said mem- Serial No. 560,733.
bers are provided with corresponding screw holes 10 which likewise register with each other. In assembling the three major parts the partition plate, which is preferably made of thin metal, is interposed horizontally between the cover and bristle retaining members and said members and plate are fastened together by means of screws as shown in dotted lines in Figs. 5 and 6. 'y .Y
Referring particularly to Fig. 5 of the drawing, when the three major parts 5, 6 and 7 are secured together the cover member is divided by the partition 8 into two compartments with the plate partition 6 serving as a bottom closure therefor. The outer orend one of said compartments, as designated by the numeral 11, is somewhatsmaller than the other compartment which. is designated by the numeral 12. Said partition plate forms the top of a compartment 18 in the bristle retaining member which compartment extends the full length of said member anda plurality of holes 14 is provided in the transverse partition 9. t
The bristle retaining member 7 has the usual bristles 15 secured or connected to its bottom and a large number of small perforations 16 extend through said bottom between the bristles. A. handle 17 extends integrally from one end of said bristlel retaining member and is provided with a conduit extending therethrough and communicating with the compartment 13. A tube 18 is installed iny said conduit for the entry of water and said tube is provided at its inner closed end por'- tion with a plurality of perforations 19 which .distribute the water evenly and with reduced force into said compartment. Re-l ferring to Figs. 1 and 7 two caps may be used for the end of said handle, one witha threaded extension for connection with the source of a running water supply and designated by the numeral 20, andthe other a closed cap for use when not'using running water and designated by the numeral 21.
The plate partition 6 has an aperture 22 therethrough and the reentrant neck, forming a hole 23 through the bottom of the bris-` tle retaining member 7, extends upwardly and lfirmly against said partition plate thus v forming a closure around said aperture. A communication is thus established directly from the compartment 12, which is used for liquid soap, through the bristle retaining member. Said aperture 22 is closed by a valve 24 normally held against its seat by a leaf spring 25 and said valve'is opened `by pressing on a button or knob 26 disposed on top of the cover member 5 and having a .connection with said valve.
In using the brush the compartment is filled with a soap solution through the hole.
23 by means of a receptacle having a spout, such as an oil can or the like. extension of the cap 20 is then connected to a flexible hose27 which is connected to a Water supply source or-m-eans and the runningwater Vpasses through the tube 18 and its perforations 19 into the compartment 13. From lsaid compartment the water passes slowly through the small perforations 16 in the 'bottom of thebristle retaining member 7 and' thoroughly saturates the bristles 15. Whenever desired, liquid soap is fed tosaid bristles directly by pressing downwardly on the-valve button 26. In case it is desired to use the brush without ruiming water, the compartments 12 and 13 are tilledwith a soap solution and 1 fresh water respectively and thefcap 21`is installed on the end of the handle toclose its conduit andA tube 18.
The small compartment 11 has an electromagnet or motor vibrator yelement 28 of any desired construction installed therein and with wire connections 29 extending through the handle 17 and adapted to be .connected to the source of electrical supply. A switch 30 may bein'stalledinA the handle and interposed inthe wires. An arm 31 of the electromagL net extends upwardly through the cover member 5 and a Vibrator brush 32 of anyde-V sired formA may be connected to said arm'for massage purposes as will be understood.
I-Iavingthus described my invention, what I claim kand desire to secure by LettersPatent of theUnited States is A scrubbing brush having in combination a;cover` member with a transverse partition, abristle` retaining member witha transverse partition having holes therethrough, a parti# tion' plate Ainterposed horizontally between said cover and bristle retaining members forming jaliquid soap containing compartment in the covermember anda watencontaining compartment in the bristleretaining member, said bristle retaining member having'bristles connected to its bottom and small perforations extending through saidV bottom between the bristles, a, handle extending integrally from said bristle retaining member and having a conduit therethrough, means for connectingsaid handle to a source oit' running water, a tube within the handle. conduit having perforations in itsv inner end portion and extending into the water containing com- The :threaded MARK SOSS.
