' JOHAN EILERT onvi v, or CHRISTIANIA, NoRWAY,
, SUPPORT-STRAP vFOR REINFORCEMENT INQSTEEL-CONGRETE GIRDERS.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that JoHAN EILERT ORVIN, civil engineer, subject of Norway, Oscars Gate 78, Christiania, Norway, have 1n- Ventedf new and useful Improvements in Support-Straps for the Reinforcement in Steel-Concrete Girders, of which thefollowing is a specification:
In the casting of combined steel and concrete girders, it is very important that the iron reinforcement should be heldsecurely, in its fixed position. The iron bars were heretofore often equipped with projections .in convenient places, which were supported by the mold or casing whereby the bars were heldin their proper position.
Many drawbacks were caused by :these projections and several attempts'have been made to overcome these disadvantages without giving the result wanted. The present invention has ,for' its object I to provide a metal strap, which is formed in such a way that it may be easily placed in the mold box and may at once serve as a support for the reinforcement bars w1thwhen manufacturing these bars.
The invention is shown in the accompanying drawing in'which: v
The figure shows the support strap in position in the moldbox of a common steel concrete girder in a floor. y
As shown in the drawing, the U-shaped strap 1 is equipped-with loops 2 resting on. the mold 3, for keeping especially the central part or cross-head 7 of the strap? at' a fixed distance fromthe bottom of the mold. The reinforcement bars 4: may be placed directly upon the central portion of the strap and be held in this position during the castingof the concrete girder.
For reinforclng very broad girders, the
central part of the strap may also be Specification of Letters Patent.
g necessary equipped with a loop '5 as-shown by dotted lines.
The strap has, its upper ends bent down-1 wardly to provide legs 6, which rest on the su porting means. a j
uch straps are placed at convenlent ntervals, for instance at'each half meter of f the length of the girder.
to space the sides and bottom of the strap from thesides and bottom ofthe mold. By placing the loops at the corners I of the strap, a'saving iii-material will be efi'ected,
as it will not be necessary to provide additional projections from the strap sides.
The elimination of additional side p'rojections will also save the effort and time re quired' in forming such loops.
Having now described my invention, what I I claim as new anddesire to secure'by'Letters Patent is Patented J une- 1, 1920. Application filed January 29*, 1919. Serial No. 273,928.
in the concrete box, with out any further f It. will be notedthat the loops 2 ex- A stirrup for supporting reinforcing bars for concretefcomprlsing a single. piece of wire bent to provide a cross-head having its ends bent to form outwardly extending loops which merge into parallel side members having their upper ends bent to form supporting legs, said loops being designed to rest in the corners of a mold for'spacing the cross-head away from the bottom of'the mold and the side members away from the sides of the mold.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
.JOHAN EILERT ORVIN.
