DOOR HANGER;
APPLICATION FILED FEB. 12, I920.

Application fi1ed. February 12, 1920.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS V. PLIon, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Ashland, Ohio, have invented a new and useful improvement in Door- Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to devices known as door hangers, the object being to provide in the hanger of the type adapted to doors which swing and slide, means for suspending the same from an overhead track and for mounting the same on the door in such away that various adjustments can be effected. ll also provide improved means whereby the device may be readily reversed for application to either a right or a left hand door.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of my 1nvention on a very much reduced scale showin the method of application to a door.
ig. 2 is a relatively enlarged view of the hanger.
Fig. 3 is an edge elevation of the hanger shown in Fig. 2 looking from rightto left.
Fig. 4 is a view similar to Fig. 3 showing the hanger with its mounting reversed.
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of a detail.
1 represents a track arranged to be secured to the main frame of a building above the door passage. 23 represent two doors. In this particular instance, the door 2 is hinged to the door casing so as to swing outward. The door 3 is hinged at its inner side to the door 2 so that when the door 2 is swung open, the door 3 will fold back moving with the door 2. The free edge of the door 3 is suspended from the track 1 by means of a hanger, said hanger comprising a frame 4 having a pulley 5 therein which rides on the track 1. (i is a spindle which extends downwardly from the main frame t of the hanger. This spindle 6 is mounted to swivel in a sleeve 7. The sleeve 7 is provided with an offset arm 8 which is mounted to slide in a socket 9, which socket is formed on or carried by a plate 10 which may be bolted to the door. The offset arm 8 is preferably round so that it may be turned in the socket 9. In the opposite sides of the offset arm 8 are two grooves 8 and 8. 11 is a set screw which passes through the side of the sleeve 9 so that the point of the screw may project into either one of the grooves 8 or 8 so as to hold the offset arm 8 not only against Specification of Letters Patent.

sliding but also against rotation. 1212 are look nuts on the spindle (3. The spindle 6 turns freely in the sleeve 7. In Fig. 2, I have shown the hanger as applied to a door which is designed to move to the left and which may be termed a left hand door. In Fig. 4, I have shown the hanger as applied to what may be termed a right hand door. In adapting the said hanger to this door it requires merely the loosening up of the set screw 11 so that the socket 9 and plate 10 may be rotated from the position indicated in Fig. 2 to the reverse position indicated in Fig. 4 in which position the parts may be again locked by the set screw 11. It frequently happens that the set back of the door relatively to the track 1, or the offset of the latter relatively to the former, may vary considerably and heretofore brackets with varying degrees of offsets have been provided to take care of the varying condi tions, or in some instances, the hanger has been blocked off from the door by pieces of blocking. These methods however, are not only expensive but unsatisfactory. By my improvement the offset of the hanger relatively to the face of the door may be varied by simply loosening the set screw 11 and sliding the offset arm 8 out to the desired degree, and then tightening up on the set screw 11 to hold the parts fixedly in their newly adjusted position. It will be observed that these improvements constitute a very great convenience and will result in a sub stantial saving both to the manufacturer, dealer and consumer, in that one single swivel hanger may be provided which 1s adjustable as to offset and reversible for right or left hand doors. The sleeve 7 with its offset arm 8 carried in the socket 9 having the base plate, 10 constitute a bracket, which as above indicated is both adjustable and reversible.
In applying the device to the upper edge of a door, a hole should be bored in the door to provide clearance for the inner end of the offset arm 8.
What I claim is:
1. A swivel door hanger comprising a frame for carrying an antifriction roller, a bracket comprising a sleeve in which the frame is swiveled and adjustable vertically, and a base having a socket and an offset arm carried by said sleeve and adjustable laterally, said arm being reversible in said Patented May 25", 1920. i
10 in said socket, With means for locking the said parts of the bracket together rigidly in various positions of adjustment, the opposite sides of said offset arm being recessed to form seats, and a device carried by the socket arranged to look into either one of said seats at Will depending upon the position of the base plate relatively to said sleeve.
