ORVILLE CHARLESVVI-IUMIVIEVL, or NAUVQO, ILLINOIS.
Y Bonn-FILM CARRIER.
' 5 Application filed April 16,
To cZZ when it may co a 7cm Be it known that I, ()nviLnn CHARLES IIU'M'MEL, a citizen ofthe United States, residing at l a-uvoo, county of'Ha-ncock, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Roll-FilmCarriers, of which the following isa specification.
My invention relates to improvements in carriers for film rolls, and it consists in the combinations, constructions and arrangements herein described and claimed.
An object of my invention is to provide a roll film carrier in which a number of containers for film rolls may be carried and protected from the weather, and in which means is provided for inserting containers having exposed films at the bottom of the carrier and for removing containers having unexposed films at the top.
I A further object of my invention is to provide a device of the type described which will take up a minimum amount of room, while at the same time providing for keeping track of the exposed and unexposed films.
A further object of my invention is to pro vide a neat carrying case for containers of roll films, which is light in weight, made of few parts, and iseasily operated.
()thcr objects and advantages will appear in the following specification, and the novel features of the invention will be particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
My invention is illustrated in the accom- Jan in drawin s formin art of this a plication, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of the carrier; I v
Fig. 2 is an enlarged longitudinal section through the carrier; and n Fig. 3 is a fragmentary perspective view of one end of the carrier, showing the latter in its open position.
In carrying out my invention I provide a casing which is preferably made of leather, and which consistsof the side members 1 and 2, a front portion 3. and a back 4. The ends of theside members are'rounded as shown at 1 and 2*, and the back l is extended at both ends to provide end flaps or covers 5 and 6 respectively. I These end or cover portions are adapted to fold over and to be fastened to the front portion 3 by means of snap fasteners 7 or in any other suitable manner.
Each of the side members has a guide loop I Specification of Letters Patent.

like that shown at 8, and is provided near.
one end with an opening through which a strap 9 may be passed. The strap 9 serves as a shoulder strap and also as a means for retaining the film containers in position, as will be explained later. It will be noted that the front portion 3 terminates short'of the rounded ends of thesidemembers 1 and A movable bottom 10' is provided, this bottom being made of metal or'other suitable material. r
From the foregoing description of the various parts of the device, the operation thereof may be thoroughly understood. The dimensions of the carrier are such asto conveniently receive a number of containers such as roll films are usually carried in. In Fig. 2 I have shown, in dotted lines, six of When it is desired to use a film, container a shown at the top of the carrier is opened, the film is placed in the camera and the exposures are made, the empty container in the meantime being replaced in its proper position, 2'. 6., at the top.
vAfter the exposures are made the film is 'bottom is loosened and opened, and a finger is placed underneath the bottom 10 and the remaining five film containers are pushed upwardly, the container 64 having the exposed film being inserted in the place of the container 7. The container 6 will now be at the top and the false bottom 10 will now sep arate the container f from thecontainer a.
In a similar manner any number of film containers may be inserted at the bottom, and other containers having unexposed films removed from the top. Eventually the false bottom 10 will appear at the upper end of the carrier. The user of the device will then knowthat all the films have been exposed.
It will beseen that the shoulder strap 9 has a double function of affording a suspending film containers from dropping out at the bottom when the bottom'fiap 5 is opened By pulling that portion of the strap which means for the carrier and also of keeping the This device is compact, neat in appearance, and will keep the films from injury.
I- It also insures against double exposure, since; one oan alweys "-teli'wlhether the film in given container hasb'eenexposed ift'he con-v tainersslareinserted and removedesde;-
