@Hom/w15 JASPER STANLEY WINGET, OF YORK, PENNSYLVANIA.
CHILDS FOLDING COMBINED BED AND COOP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 18, 1920.
Application led January 7,'1919. Serial No. 270,036.
To all whom it may concern Be it` known that I, JASPER STANLEY WINGET, a citizen of the United States, residing at York, in the county of York, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Childrens Folding Combinedv Beds and Coops, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing. Y This invention relates to improvements in a childs folding combined bed and coop, and the primary object of which is to provide a folding and readily transportable construction adapted to be easily converted into either'` a bed or a coop, or playing inclosure for the child.
The objects of the particular construction Awill appear from the following description.
In thev accompanying drawings- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my imprkovment, showing it assembledfor use as a e Fig. 2 is a view showing the device folded and packed, ready for convenient transportation and handling.
Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse view on the line 3"'-3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a sectional view on the line 4-4 of Fig. 2.
sectional Fig. 5 isa vertical transverse sectional view of the lower end ofthe structure, showing it assembled foruse as a playing inclosure or coop for the child.
Fig. 6 is a detached perspective view of the combined bed spring and inclosure'or coop bottom.
Fig. 7 is a sectional lview on line 7-7 of Fig. 2, showing one edge of the folded structure.
My improved folding combined bed and play inclosure for` children, comprises two side frames 1, which are provided with fine wire netting 2. The ends 3 of the device are composed of two frames 4, which are likewise provided with wire netting. The edges of these frames 4 are hinged at 5 to the ends of the side frames l, and the adjacent inner edges of the frames 4 are hinged together at the point 6. The side frames 1 are preferably provided withsupporting legs 7 for the purpose of supporting the device a short .distance above the floor.
Wire spring 9. This wire spring 9 is carried by a combined bottom spring member 10, which is provided withprojecting edges 1l, to which the spring 9 is attached, forming a recess 12, separating the spring 9, from the bottom 13.
The combined bottomand spring 10 is placed in the position shown in Figs. l1 and 3,l when the devicelis' to be used as a bed. When the device is to be used as a play inclosure or coop for the child, the member 10 is turned over so that the part 13 will form a bottom for the inclosure, making a play lace for the child and protecting it from arm or injury, and from wandering around.
The member 10 is provided'with projecting pins or other suitable projections 14,-
which rest upon the lower part of the side frames 1,when it is used as a play inclosure or coop for the child, as shown in Fig. 5, and these projections 14 rest upon suitable projections 15 carried by the side frames 1', when the member 10 is with its spring upward and in position to receive the` mattress 8.
The object of having the projections 15 is to have the mattress near the top of the structure where the child -can be readily Away to cover the child when asleep.
It willbe noted that the hinges 5 and 6 are' so positioned andinserted into the side and end frames that theedges of the frames practically meet. This is for the purpose of making the device fly-tight when it is desired that it should be so.
For the purpose of readily assembling and holding the 'parts in their assembled position, the combined'botto'm and spring l0 is provided at one edge with hooks 16, which will fit over the edge of the side frames 1, as shown in Figs. 2, 4 and 7, and the mattress 8 -is likewise provided with hooks 17 which fit over the edge of the part 1 when the arts are assembled in position, as shown` in ig's,
2 and 7. The hinges 5 and 6 permit the side frames to fold inward, as shown in Fig. 2, and thus makes a compact bundle when the parts are folded, and when so folded they are readily held in their folded positions by a single strap.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent isl. A closely folding combined bed and playing structure, comprising twoh side frames and two pairs of end frames, the
-end frames hinged together to fold inward and their outer ends hinged to the end frames to fold inward to permit the end frames and side frames to lie against one another in parallel planes, a rigid detachable rectangular bottom having one side solid and a wire mattress at its opposite side supported away from its solid side, the bottom having outwardly projecting supporting pins and the frames having horizontal ledges adapted to receive the pins when the frames are extended to rectangular positions, a removable mattress having inwardly extending substantially L-shaped hooks to engage the edges of the side'frames when applied to their opposite outer sides when they are in folded positions, and a strap for encircling the frames, mattress and bottom when in their collapsed position.
2. A folding combined bedand playing structure, comprising side and end frames hingedtogether to fold in parallelism, a rigid ldetachable bottom having' one side solid and a recess at its opposite side formed by having at right angles to itself projecting edges for supporting a wire spring mattress away from its solid side, the edges of the bottom provided with projections for detachably supporting the bottom within the frames when the latter are expanded to a.
rectangular position, the parts combined for the purpose described.
3. A folding combined bed and playing structure, comprising side and 'end frames hinged together to fold in parallelism, a rigid detachable rectangular bottom having `a-wire mattress side and a solid side, the bot- 'tom provided with projections for detachably supporting the bottom within the frames when the latter are expanded to a rectangular position, a removable mattress vhaving inwardly extending substantially L-shaped hooks to engage the edges ofl one side nof the side frames when applied to their outer sides when they are 'in folded positions, the bottom having inwardly extendingvsubstantially L-shaped hooks 'to engage the
