A. LINK.
CLAMP.
APPLICATION FILED AUG-6. I919.

Bitmap ANTON LINK, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
CLAMP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 11, 1920.
Application filed August 6, 1919. Serial No. 315,781.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ANToN LINK, a citi- Zen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Clamp, of which the following is a specification.
It is the object of this invention to provide novel means whereby a mop head, a tool blade or the like may be held between a pair of members, the said members being so constructed that the handle of a mop or tool or other implement will hold them together and cause them to engage the head of the mop or other object.
It is within the province of the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that type to which the invention appertains.
lVith the above and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that, within the scope of what is claimed, changes in the precise embodiment of the invention shown can be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawing Figure 1 is an end elevation; Fig. 2 is a side elevation; Fig. 3 is an elevation wherein the device is viewed at right angles to the showing of Fig. 2; Fig. 4: is a cross section on the line 4-& of Fig. 2; and Fig. 5 is alongitudinal section on the line 55 of Fig. 3.
1n carrying out the invention there is provided a pair of trough- shaped members 1 and 2 supplied with jaws 3 adapted to hold a mop head, a tool or other object. The member 2 is provided with inwardly proj ecting rings or retainers at. The member 1 is provided with an inwardly projecting ring or retainer 5, received between the, rings at of the member 2. The member 1 is supplied. with an inwardly projecting lug 6 having bifurcations receiving the inner end of a projection or lug 7 on the member 2, the projections 6 and 7 being located adjacent to the jaws 3.
In practical operation, a handle 8 is thrust through the rings or retainers l and 5, thereby holding the members 1 and 2 together and causing their jaws 3 to cooperate with the mop head, broom, tool or other object. The interengaged lugs 6 and 7 aid in preventing lateral movement between the members 1 and 2, and serve to hold the rings or retainers l and 5 alined, for the reception of-the handle 8.
The lugs 6 and 7 constitute interengaging parts, cotiperating to aline the rings l and 5, as above stated, the lugs, further, serving as a stop, interposed between the working head which is gripped by the jaws 3, and the handle 8, to the end that the working head may have an abutment, and to the end, further, that the handle cannot by any possibility push the working head outwardly from between the jaws 3. It is to be observed that the rings l and 5 are of appreciable width, measured longitudinally of the device, the rings cooperating to form a continuous socket wherein the handle 8 may be seated firmly against lateral movement. Owing to the construction last above alluded to, the device possesses advantages over structures of a similar sort, made from wire or made from sheet metal and including thin inwardly in'ojecting plates, of inapprociable width, through which the handle is inserted, or into which the handle is threaded.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is A device of the class described comprising pair of members provided at their outer ends with gripping jaws adapted to receive a working head, and supplied adjacent to their inner ends with alternating axially alined rings of appreciable width measured longitudinally of the device and cooperating to form a continuous socket wherein a handle may be seated firmly, to hold said members against lateral separation, the members being provided, between the jaws on the one hand, and the rings on the other hand, with interengaging parts cooperating to aline the rings, and serving as a stop interposed between the handle and the head.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
ANTON LINK.
