To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLARENCE W. SoHwoRM a citizen of the United States, residing at Massillon, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Bucket-Ear, of which the following is a specification.
The subject of this invention is a bucket ear intended primarily for use on wire buckets.
The main object of the invention is the provision of means for preventing the ear sliding on the wires.
A further object within the contemplation of the invention is the provision of means for attaching the ear to a bucket.
A still further object of the invention is the production. of a simple, durable and efiicient bucket ear whereby a bail or handle may be attached to a bucket.
\Vith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described andclaimed, it' being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
A practical embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawing, wherein Figure l is a view in elevation of an ear constructed in accordance with the invention, a fragment of the bucket to which it is attached being shown;
Fig. 2 is a section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 1 showing a modified "form of attachment,
Fig. 4c is a section on the line 4-4 of Fig. 3;
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the ear.
Referring to the drawing by numerals of reference 11 and so bind the attachment to the bucket.'
A tongue 14 is struck from the ear 12 and is bent over above the rim of the bucket to prevent the attachment from sliding vertically upon the wires 11. The striking of the tongue 14 from the ear 12 provides a slot or aperture 15 for the reception of the end of a bail or handle 16.
In the modified form of attachment shown in Fig. 3 and Fig. 1, the cheeks 13 are not bent back upon themselves to embrace wires 11 but a plate 17 is placed on the opposed side of the wires and the cheeks 13 and plate 17 connected by rivets 18, or by spot welding, or in any other suitable manner.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new and sought by Letters Patent, is
In combination with a bucket having a wire frame the upper ends of the side wires CLARENCE W.SCHWCRM.
