Description

l. N. vWALLS.
Animal Pokes.
FHL-133,815,` l Patented Dec. 10,18*?2.
UNITED STATES PATENT EEroE.
JOHN N. wALLr-s, OE ELEMING, NEW YORK, AssIeNOE To ErMsELE AND HENRY G.`WISE, OF SAME PLAGE.
IMPROVEMENT IN ANIMAL-Pears.
Specification iormin g part of Letters Patent No. 133,815, dated December l0, 1872.
T o all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN N. WALLIS, of Fleming, in the county of Cayuga and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Animal-Pokes; and
I do hereby declare that the following is a full,
clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon which form a part of this speciiication.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of an Animalfolie, as will be hereinafter more fully set Orth.
In Vorder to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, Irwill now proceed to describe.
its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- 'Figure l is a perspective view of my invention, and Fig. 2 is a plan view of a part thereof.
My animal-poke is composed of a malleableiron head, A A', a stale, B, bow C, and spiral i springs D D. The iron head is made of two strengthen and support the connecting-pin d which passes through them andthe stale, and also strengthen the stale at this point. They keep the ends of the bow C in their proper places, said ends being placed en t-he pin d. The springs D D are formed of one piece of wire, the center of which is held between the two parts A and A', and the ends bent, as shown fully in Fig. 2, and the extreme ends straight and inserted in thimbles or sockets ff formed on the inner or concave side of the barE so that said ends may project through and prick the horse it he goes to jump over a fence. One or both ofthe ends of the bow G may be extended or provided with an extension, h, so thatwhen the bow comes in contact with the head of the stale such extension will prevent the horse from throwing the lower end over the fence and thusobviating all danger of his jumping over the same. v
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The head formed of two pieces, A A', ot' malleable-iron, constructed as described, with bar E, projections b b, and forming a socket for the stale B, all substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
2. The combination ot' the head A A', bar
E with sockets f f, thimbles b b, stale B, pin d, bow O, and springs D D, all constructed and arranged substantially as and for the pur- -poses herein set forth. i l In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
J OHN N. WALLIS.
